Spacetrooper Backpack- Found !! New pics added

I have a cast of that backpack - it was a gift from the pattern maker, from my last trip to Japan. He made a lot of the stuff for Marmit! I didn't see one painted, so thanks for the link!
:cool

wow thats so awesome. would it be possiable if you can take few pics of the one you got? would appreciate it. thx

Nope...I think they got teh tanks part right but the other details wrong.
We see Joe Johnston wearing his gloves OVER the forearm armor and the hose tucked up IN to his helmet. Im saying they idealized the Marmit figure. Personally I like the Marmit figure as I think it looks more 'finished' then the pics weve seen of spacetrooper
I have no clue if they got the bottom part of the backpack right as I dont think weve ever gotten a good look at it.
So you're saying they just guessed at what it looks like? Those tanks look just like these.

Marmit has an eye for detail, but they do take liberties. The Fett ESB sidearm is a good example. I'm watching this thread with interest.

I'm just dropping in to remind everyone that I'm the one who discovered the Death Star piece as the top of the backpack....... so if anyone ever does a run I get one for free okay?

another example, the Marmit Spacetrooper has a ridged breathing tube where the costume looks to have a smooth hose.

Guys this 'new' pic has got my fires buring again as I've already made some of these backpacks myself
(posted a couple pages in)

Those tanks DO look like the ones used in the death star trench. Also that double barrel laser turret is photographed in the making of star wars book (I've listed the page a few pages back in this thread too)

The size of the bottles there are more or less the same as the bottles on Joes back.

I've asked Steve Sansweet for any reference photos the guys at Marmit may have had. I've even got the scupltors name off another forum.

He said it's not the first time he's been asked. There are no digital reference photos of these guys but will look in the fall through the old photos to see if he can come up with anymore

I can't wait :)

Well, nobody seems to want to tackle my question...are these the same tanks worn on the BOUSHH costume? If so there should be LOTS of reference as that costume has been displayed a lot.

The bottles are Texaco tanker parts, right? Takahashi-san and I talked about this backpack a couple of months ago - we're both obsessed with it :p

He didn't have any more reference on it than we do, believe it or not. But yeah, Sansweet apparently might be able to dig up more!

Seiji TAKAHASHI
Is the sculptor mentioned on this web page
http://www1.odn.ne.jp/~cdt96010/marmit-vader.htm

Do you know him then? Or am I missing something here, lol
What reference pics did he have when he scuplted this then?

And as for Bouush. It's been suggested before and not agreed on :)

No, I don't think they are the same. Here is all I could find for Boushh:

So when did he do the sculpt? Was his reference material "this thread"? lol

Steven

no, lol... but he has the same source material the books do, I guess. There's not much out there that's been put into the "reference stream" so to speak.

Is there more out there? probably. There are binders and binders of negatives that have yet to be catalogued or put into the system they have. I love that we'll probably be getting "newly discovered reference" on these things until the day we die!

Just looked through this thread again gang, man there are some real nice screen grabs guys, I encourage all of you if your new to this thread to go back and take a look. Well done, a lot more on here than just the backpacks, as if that was not cool enough. Thanks to whoever got this going, was great to see some of this again. :thumbsup

Yeah Marmit have taken liberties in the past but those bottles they've used bare an uncanny resembelance to what we 'think' they used in the DS trenches too

They're ATAT driver has grey armour so I'm not holding my breath. It's just sucj an exciting lead though.

Steve has said he wont be able to help until the fall :(

I think you need to look again at the behind the scenes color pic. It shows pretty clearly that Joe had the rubber gloves pulled over his forearm guards...you can actually see the drop off from forearm piece to real arm UNDER the glove. And btw, his forearms arent that long and taking a moment to actually look at the pic and do a little measuring shows that his arms are proportionate to his body.

Joe Johnston just had really longs arms dude

This is the pic Im referring to. Its pretty apparent the gloves are pulled OVER the forearms. If you color in teh 'wrists' white you would see a normal lengthed forearm. I should also mention that if you take the correct rubber gloves and try and pull them over the ends of your forearm armor it tends to push the forearms UP on the arm which is why Joes are riding high. Same with the second actor

Interesting stuff, guys. :D

Here's the best I could do:

ANH-spacetroopers2.jpg

It sort of seems that the breathing hose (visible in the Joe Johnson shot on the left, can't make it out on the other two)... that the hose is attached to a SPHERE on the back there...
