Spacetrooper Backpack- Found !! New pics added

Hmm, the hose (especially the metal thingy on the tip) somehow reminds me of a fire-extinguisher.
Also the hose in the Johnson-pic seems to be quite sturdy and stiff.

Maybe they used the bottle itself, too... :confused

I'm starting to think that the bottom part is a canister vacuum, either a modified working one they had in the studio or a junk one they bought cheap.

The canister would be about the right size to go across your back, and it would have a long enough hose to go from your back to your front. Plus the hoses back then had metal ends to attach accessories.

Take this one for example:

If you took the wheels off and used the handle on the backside to attach it

And both the Joe Johnston image and the toy have a hole on (his) left side outward from him, with a vacuum like this if you cut the cord, attached it handle side in, and attached the hose on (his) right side the cord hole would be in the correct spot.

Could it be the bottom half of a snorkel without the rubber bite part? I know some US Diver gear got onto another Johnson creation: Boba Fett. Never know.

Thought I'd reprise this old thread incase you were interested in my finished project ;-) following on from my mate Johns build all them years back

Using the freuhauf tanker, the moving on truck, a couple of paystar cement mixers and some plumbing materials here's what I put together

This thread reads like an archeological dig. I truelly like how the small bits of information are found to finally form a theory on how the backpack looks and then changes when new information is found.

Truelly inspiring, Thanks.

Talk about resurrecting a 2 year old thread!

BTW, the full sized replica looks great!

Unless the "real" prop item is found in the archives under a Bantha throw rug, next to the hero OB1 ANH saber hilt, or until Disney releases the 4K SW: ANH print for additional screen grabs, I guess we'll never really know...

Funny it looks like all the main parts came from the trench set. I guess they really used whatever was close by and on hand.

It's good to see this finally realized, I'm glad I made that connection on those towers a few years ago.

Also if the pic of the figure is based on some ref we haven't seen then I would bet the bottom cylinders are two paint buckets joined together then detailed. ILM used the paint buckets for the Escape pod body and it looks the same size so if you were to search Escape pod in the studio scale section it will tell you the correct Oz size they used. Seeing as ILM made this prop that's where I would put my money.

Very nice info Jedimaster, even now the voyage continues :)
I had an idea those pipes may be from the sealab but I've never owned one so just went with 7mm tube... Can I see you about some castings?

Great spot with the saturn, I think I've looked at these drums too long that they match everything lol. I did consider the paint pots but they just looked too big in scale? Could be worth looking at again tho :)

Thanks for adding to this, the next version will take another big step forward :)

It's alive!!! :)

Hot Toys has a new 1/6 scale Spacetrooper and I'm not sure if any of the details are new or not. I don't remember seeing that blaster with the double Singlepoints on it before. Now I wonder if they had photos from the archives or just made up the blaster?

GREAT....anlther blaster to add to the list, IF that prooves to be a recreation of a production used item ;)

That helmet sculpt is really bad.

I have had high hopes for hot toys OT troops, Vader, Fett...

I expect more from HT.

Why not scan an original instead of a sculpters interpretation????

DUH.

besides Hot Toys adding a new blaster, the Spacetrooper's backpack have two new rocket booster. They do look great and makes sense for troopers to fly around on the Deathstar but not screen accurate. hehe.

Besides the new rocket boosters by HT, Seems the backpack by Marmit is more screen accurate.
