Spacetrooper Backpack- Found !! New pics added

I think that black blob on the costume on the trooper on the left is actually the E-11 holster. But what is that black 'S' shape thing running down what appears to be the left arm of the trooper on the right? Are we seeing the armpit, and the 'kidney' gap, or are we seeing some sort of black hose type of weapon? Or, did these poor TKs get the crap job of cleaning mynock poo off the Death Star windows, with some sort of Vacuum cleaner?

Man, I can't tell anything from these pics, other than they did wear some special 'space gear'

Yeah I would guess that's the hose that goes to the front of the helmet.

Maybe someone could grab some screen caps and zoom out a bit. With it enlarged so much, the pixelation just makes everything too distorted to see very clearly anyway.
In this case, having less could be more?

wait the DVDs arent hi-def? I thought they were.. i guess i dont know too much about high def.

I remember reading somewhere, maybe here, that both troopers are Joe. They just doubled him through the magic of film. :)

Does anybody have problems with their disc freezing up around this part of the movie? I've just tried several times to get to this scene again on my computer (with 2 differend dvd drives) and it won't do it....

Here is what I see:

and tend to agree, that it is the same actor playing both troopers. Look at how short his forearm armor is. The same in both.

I seem to remember having seen a few pics of troopers with their forearm armor apparently pushed too high on their arm not necessarily cut too short. And if you look at the pic of Joe in CHRONICLES, I don't think the hose attaches to the helmet at all but rather goes under it. Maybe he just held it in his mouth like a normal regulator.

My thoughts.

I'm going to have to check that pic again because I thought the helmet had one or both mic tips out. Of course that doesn't mean the hose went there, but it would make sense.

Hey all, I had ANH in my computer today and decided to grab this image progression for your dissecting pleasure

Cheers

guess we will have to wait for the Blu-ray DVD version to come out.
Does it look like the prototype trooper at all? OR any of the other paintings?

That thing has been driving me nuts for years. I haven't gotten the new Braksbuddy 70mm film scan CD yet, is it on there? That would definately have better clarity than a DVD screen cap.

sorry to resurrect this from errrrmmmmmm 2yrs ago :confused

but with HD pictures now available i thought we could have another bash at nailing this.

from the picture below the first thing i noticed is the hose from the Backpack (whatever the hell that is) actually seems to go under the helmet.

the pack itself i think was something thrown together on the spur of the moment therefore open to any interpretation
but the 3 cylinder theory seems the best bet

crieky this is doing my head in What the hell did they use to make this. :angry

on the left sided trooper the black blob that has been highlighted in other posts is clearly the Holster

ive been trawling the net for about 3 hours now trying to find as much info on this as i can and ive came up with zip...............

does anyone have contact details for Joe Johnston pm me if you like ............. but i am now on a personal mission :angry

this project has now become personal :angry

Everytime I see that pack from the side, all I can imagine is my vacuum cleaner with a soda bottle stuck upside down on top.. :lol

Joe might or might not remember what it looked like... the best thing to do would be to contact Mollo..Either he or LFL would have the photo records of what was used for continuity puposes.. if at all, since it was such a minor thing..I hate to say it, but a detailed 'wardrobe' continuity photo might not even exist if it was thrown together at ILM as a "last-minute thing" for the shot..Does anyone know if the bits were filmed in the UK or CA?
the SFX (ILM) department would probably still have the records of the separated blue screen images/footage and ref. pix of Joe..
good luck with "THE QUEST"
