Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club (PIC HEAVY!)

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED Oct 22nd (PIC HEAVY!)

Well, here's my storm Sandy post. I'm not sure if I'll be able to work on this much longer today, as I keep expecting the power to go off at any moment. The winds are picking up all the time, and I don't want to be stuck gluing on some critical piece in a critical place, only to have the lights suddenly disappear and ruining the work, which I'd have to undo later!

Anyhow, I glued the styrene plates onto the bottom of the module.

Now, comes the more difficult task of plating the pointy nose of this thing! You can see why I'd be leery to do that right now!

To all fellow east coast RPF'ers and non-RPF'ers, best of luck through this storm.:thumbsup

Well that is coming along great! I certainly don't envy you the task of sanding that out and putting the curve on thos side wraps:eek

I have nothing as yet to report on my eagle as I am on another little connected project for now.... I'm having great fun though, and when it is finished, maybe it can be posted up here. We'll see......
Keep up the good stuff, Hurricane Bob, and stay safe! :)

Thanks, Non-Hurricane Darren! :)
I'm actually looking forward to sanding them smooth. Unfortunately, that'll probably have to wait until the rear half is attached, so I can form the curves more accurately. After I finish up the nose, I'll probably move back to working on the passenger pod for a while. We shall see!

I look forward to your endeavors, as well!:)

I made some progress and if you want, I will p.m. You some more pics when I have the opportunity.

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED Oct29th (PIC HEAVY!)

Well, storm Sandy has passed, and no damage here of note (that I've seen yet, anyway). Still, it was an awfully long day and night, where 24 hours felt more like 48. So with the power still miraculously on :eek, I decided to plow forward and get this phase of my Eagle built!

I cut out pieces of styrene to attach to the nose and "wrap" around it, to complete the skin of the front section. This part wasn't horribly, horribly difficult, but it was horribly, horribly tedious. I'll just let the pictures do the talking!

After this, the surface will be sanded smooth, but as I said, the rear half of the module will have to be attached first, so I can build up its exterior to match the front half.

But man, am I glad this part is behind me! :thumbsup

Astounding and outstanding work! I bet it's as strong as you like and as light as a feather... can you make me one please? :lol

Yeah, it is pretty light, and very strong, which feels weird 'cause I'm so used to handling it delicately! It's like it's a completely different piece!

As for making you one..well, that'll me take time to recover from this one! Besides...if I did that, how would you dazzle me with your skill when you put your talents to styrene?:)

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED Oct29th (PIC HEAVY!)

I admit I am feeling more than a little trepidatious about changing my model making mediums....but in for a penny, in for a pound, as they say...I just need to find a project worthy of the materials..

You know, that's one reason I am encouraging you to make the jump. It's my own personal experience. When I went from cardboard to styrene, it was very much a "where have you been all my life?' kind of experience!

I can't wait 'till you encounter that! :)

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED Oct29th (PIC HEAVY!)

I was thinking about building a Galileo shuttle to fit my Art Asylum 7" star Trek figures...

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED Oct29th (PIC HEAVY!)

Hey, that could be interesting!
And knowing you, I'd imagine working doors and such would be but one feature!:)

Thanks, Spaceace! Hope to make it worth your while! :)

I wish I had the skills to build like you guys, I work at a place with a spray paint booth, cnc, engraving machines, printing and vinyl cutting...it would be easy lol.

Wow, sounds perfect! Want to trade jobs?:lol

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED Oct29th (PIC HEAVY!)

Have you ever attempted a build? Maybe you might be better at it than you think! :)

Only off the shelf kits, I would like to scratch build a model star ship but it's hard to come up with something that does not look like something out of a movie or tv show, I once had a plan to build a lunar module from scratch but the size I wanted to do it was going to take up half the kitchen lol.

Well, kits can often be quite challenging themselves, but I definitely hear you as far as scratch builds. It does seem nearly impossible to come up with an original design that doesn't seem derivative of something else! :unsure Some people have managed (such as on this site!), but that particular skill thus far has eluded me as well!
