Solo: A Star Wars Story

Re: Star Wars Anthology (Young Han Solo)

No idea why Nerdist is reporting this release date as as NEWs, when it was already confirmed 7 months ago (July 7, 2015) in the above article.

Now other sites are picking up on this as new information. Internet and its sheeple seriously have short term memories.

If you read the story they acknowledge it had been scheduled for a May 2018 release previously and Bob Iger confirmed that on the conference call yesterday. They then go on to question if that date will remain or if it will be moved to Christmas of that year.

Re: Star Wars Anthology (Young Han Solo)

I did read the story including their source article on EW where the quote originated. But the fact that they don't acknowledge the full date as May 25, 2018 goes to show they are treating May 2018 as new info, despite their current speculation on whether the release date will move towards Christmas.

Little digging up would have helped in this case, cause it's just a known release date that is making rounds when it's no real news at all, leading to a trend of lazy reporting.

Re: Star Wars Anthology (Young Han Solo)

I usually take all speculation with a grain of salt, even when it is a "well known rumor" but it's finally been confirmed :)

So your entire post is about something else entirely. ;)

Re: Star Wars Anthology (Young Han Solo)

I think the thing that bothers me most about these anthology films is that they could very easily take characters we know and love and then screw them up.

Which is why rogue one looks great. There's actually a great opportunity to tell a new story

Re: Star Wars Anthology (Young Han Solo)

I tend to agree. I don't think the story of Rogue One is one that, frankly, needs to be told but it does at least look pretty good from what little we've seen. However, focusing any of these movies on major, existing characters is a notion that I think is best left alone. I know they are in the business to make money but there is a lot of room to screw things up and basing one on Han Solo is a huge and unnecessary gamble in my book, one of the biggest they could've undertaken. They originally had said these anthology movies would "explore fresh characters"...and yet we're getting a young Han Solo movie, which could go so wrong in so many ways. I've heard rumors that there may be an Obi-wan movie.and maybe a Boba Fett movie...If that's true, I fail to see how that's exploring new characters. I have a hard time buying that Obi-wan did anything noteworthy during his exile (which I'm totally fine with) and a Boba Fett movie could fall flat unless they handle it just right.

The LESS you know about his past the better.
Sadly TFA future for him blew for me.... badly, like in I am probably just going to put it in the this didn't happen bucket with ALIEN 3 and Crystal Skull.
So now I would rather they not eff up his past with a bunch of sucky needless exposition because they have no idea how to just tell
a great adventure yarn about a space cowboy.
I don't care how he met Chewie! LOL
This isn't when Harry met Sally damn it!

Couldn't agree more. Same with how I feel about a Fett stand alone. The less we know the more badass he is.

Re: Star Wars Anthology (Young Han Solo)

Star Wars Anthology film: When Hairy Met Scruffy! Yeah, they take a cool character then try to "humanize" them to say "here's why he is the way is now." It's always a moral story where they start off normal, then go bad, but see even worse stuff, then turn back to sort of good but not totally bad. It waters down the character when they give them too many feelings, I'd like to see a space pirate action adventure/ revenge story tbh. Han can be his scoundrel self, not much character development is needed, we know how he ends up in IV onward, we just need a full Han in his smuggling days film.

Re: Star Wars Anthology (Young Han Solo)

The new hollyweird can't help themselves. They must retcon everything to today's sensibility's, or lack thereof. You can't have Han shoot first or Govt agents in ET carry guns. You must give the audience a safe space, ;) Too many trigger words and ideas in movies of the past. It's just a part of the new PC world we live in. Every character we love, has to be disected and readjusted to the way many people think today. If Han is a scoundrel then it was because he was abused as a child. He was spanked or sent to his room without his supper. He can't just be what he is because of human nature. It has to be someone else's fault. Oh well, maybe ILM Will give us some big 'plosions, LOL.

Re: Star Wars Anthology (Young Han Solo)

The Star Wars Universe is so big and sprawling... why they feel the need to constantly go with characters we already know makes no logical sense. It just makes the world of Star Wars smaller and less magical. We don't need to know Han Solo or Boba Fett prior to when they were in the movies. Hell... the addition of Boba Fett in ANH SE and in the bloody prequels, as well as Chewie is so utterly stupid it just shouldn't have happened. Hell... I would have loved not to see Yoda in the prequels as well, or at least show more of his kind, so the reveal in Empire still remains, but that's just me.

There are a million stories and one that could be told in the Star Wars fictional universe... with characters unrelated to any of the main characters from the movies. So many alien races... so many options... yet... they keep going back to characters we really don't need fleshed out anymore, as it will end up ruining who they are.
