Skyrim Orc war axe and mace completed!

Anyone still not tired of skyrim?

So i am doing my first ever build up from MDF. kinda fun to work with. i have a def bit of learning to do with it. This will end up being my first real 2 part silicone mold as well. I have done a small one as a test that was very successful.
So without further ado, here they are.

You of course may have already thought of this, but I suggest a metal bar inside the cast of the axe handle. Give it some strength.

of course you arent tired Folkenstal. I love your work on all your Skyrim props.

Very nice. What tools are you using to shape the MDF?

So far adremmel and an orbital sander. plan to do a bit more detail with the dremmel and then hand sand everything. what are people using to seal the sanded parts?

You of course may have already thought of this, but I suggest a metal bar inside the cast of the axe handle. Give it some strength.

thanks Zlurpo, yeah i am wondering exactly how to handle all of that. This will most likely be cast as a one piece. But, im wondering if i should detach the handle for easier application of the rod. also it would make the shipping box smaller.

i will take any all critiques and suggestions. I love having others eyes on my work and sometimes people see things you miss.

Some people use lacquer. I use primer. Give a coat, 220 grit sandpaper, another coat. Never fails.

Small update, even though i spent 2 hours doing it.

A little more work on the axe. I put in a rough design of the pommel and above the handle. it's getting closer, but still a bunch of work to do.

Well, I got the axe finished and the mace rough shaped out. the axe is in half of the silicone right now. keep your fingers crossed that this works out. This is my first two part silicone mold of this size.


crap i just realized i forgot to make a pour spout and air spouts for the undercuts..... :angry damnit. i guess i will have to try and do those on the second half....
i knew i was not going to get through this without some kind of mistake. at least it's one i should be able to fix.

oooooh… air spouts… You can still cut them with a razor knife into the silicone.
Works fine

What's the size of the axe?

ok so i have 5 casts out. the mold came out great!

finally got some paint on one. in person, it shines and shimmers in the different lighting. pretty happy with how it came out. need a different wrap for the handle though to make it more screen accurate.

rewrapped my handle, i like it much better.
old- Black wolf fur with leather wrap.
new- Troll fur with cloth wrap.
