Simple project(s) for a beginner?

Long story short, i'm stuck in the house for at least a week and a half, probably more. I was looking for a couple of simple projects i could spend most of my time working on and actually do something productive instead of just sitting on my butt, letting the days pass by.

Anywaysss, i'd appreciate any suggestions.

I like pretty much anything haha

Indiana Jones, Batman, Iron Man, Shawshank redemption, clash of the titans, any other stephen king movies

Video games: mass effect, fallout, red dead redemption.

Pretty much any action, horror, or shooter movie/video game

Is this week-and-a-half starting now or do you have a bit of time to gather supplies beforehand?

I think maybe a simple resin replica that you could prep and paint would be a good project. Perhaps a Raiders of the Lost Ark golden idol? Spray painting would be relatively simple since it's a single color.

Paper props, and practice your weathering techniques?

Simple solid resin models (or even over the counter plastic models) and practice you paint and weathering techniques? Even practicing modifying and repainting NERF guns...

The above will server you well if you stick to the hobby, there is a lot of knowledge to be gained from the simplest of task...

Maybe create an original prop using random parts and a nerf gun and just let your imagination run free?

Edit: I waited too long to post this... exoray beat me to it :lol

Pick up a Graflex or replica and a lightsaber kit and give that a try - probably one of the most simple projects you can do, and at the end, you've got an iconic piece of movie memorabilia!

The week and a half starts today.

Would I make the resin replica myself or buy it and paint it or what? I really have no idea how to do any of this haha

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Hmmmm, all that star wars stuff DOES look pretty cool, but i've never watched those movies (don't shoot me!)

Any other suggestions?

I second this. This was one of the first projects I worked on, and I learned a lot about painting and weathering. NERF has some really cool designs that turn out awesome once repainted! And they're cheap!! The handgun is only $10! With some sanding to remove the logos, some modifications with a dremel, and some paint, you can turn these:

Add a few greeblies to the Maverick, and you got yourself an awesome steampunkish gun!

I think i saw ONE of them a few years ago in theaters...
I keep telling myself that one day i'll watch them all but i've been saying that for a while now haha

So does anyone have any tips for where to start on any of the above mentioned items ^^^

for a good Stephen Kinger: the wolf head cane from storm of the century or the five part dream catcher from dreamcatcher

for video games: depends on what ones you've played and/or liked

All of those things you mentioned are graphics heavy builds. I would say start out with making clean graphics of what you want in photoshop using stills. For the yo-yo and bottlecaps, it looks like you could just print out your graphics and glue them on some red bottlecaps or a white yo-yo. Maybe put some sealer on it when you're done.

Just piping up as a relative newcomer, but this is an excellent thread. Maybe a sticky subject listing some great beginner projects, like the nerf gun idea, and techniques is an idea.
