    Those are great still grabs
I always wanted to have at least one of the nuclear detonators
and the manual trigger. Damm I would have loved to have the whole case :D
I have a camera case in that style that would hold
at least two of the detonators and the trigger
Does any body know what happened to the original prop detonators

    Thanks again for the pics

For a Pacifist, Lowell sure knew how to play with Bombs. ;)

Nice pics. I did a review of some classic SF films on my Podcast last week (#12) and "Silent Running" was the first film I looked at. Great movie. And cool drones, props, etc..

    Nice 'caps.

    I love that old flick...

    I'd love a detornator replica or 2.

    You know...

    ... for detornatin' stuff.

The morning after the screening in Seattle two weeks ago. I had breakfast with Doug Trumball.

He still has one of those and has said he would find it and send it to me for study.

He is such a nice guy.

BTW he said it was made from a 70's high performance oil filter.

    I'M IN. :D

Mike, I live close to LA - aren't you in SoCal? I'd LOVE to reverse-engineer this puppy in 3D CAD - perhaps we could collaborate?

P.S. Does the loaner include the key?

FANTATIC caps. This is one of my all time favorite SF movies. The scenes of the ships riding silently through space is breathtaking.

I look forward to seeing what becomes of this. BTW, what does the letters 'AAK' on the devices signify?

No idea but American Airlines operates the space freighters that haul the forest domes.

Also note the arrow engraved above the AAK marking on this one

Note the arrow going the other way and "AAK" upside down on the next one.

Interesting aside: note that the typeface and style of the space freighters' nameplates is similar to that of the Battlestar Galactica, three years later

I have one of those cases. It's an old Zero Centurion case that belonged to my Grandfather.

BSG origional series used footage of the dome ships to show the agriculture ships in the fleet. And years later, a few terrible sci-fi films used footage of BSG as stock space battle footage.

EDIT: also these are some kind of water valve.

You would be incorrect. Doug Trumball himself told me that they were Top Fuel Dragster oil filters.

    Good Luck finding one.

So... I guess you never got a chance. :lol

I worked in the aviation field for 20 plus years and I always thought the piece was a hydraulic filter. Makes a bit of sense as many high end racing vehicles use aviation grade components. I do think the guy was referring to the t-handle, even though I think his is an incorrect assessment as well. :)

Wow! The last time I saw Silent Running was way back in 1981. Our hippie history professor made us watch that (as well as the unedited 1974 version of "Hearts and Minds").

Talk about making an impression on a 13 year-old.

He'd probably be fired today. :lol

Just in case there is an interest in the Drones from Silent Running back in Jan 2005 I started the Valley Forge Drone Builders on Yahoo Groups.

    http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/ValleyForgeDroneBuilders/

We have made some progress on CAD files of the feet, headlamp, and a few other parts.

We even have a few good renders of Drone 01.
