Show your Dr. Who props!

Re: Show your Dr. Who props!

This is my humble 4th doctor collection. But what I'm most proud of is the hat. Vintage 1960's green fur felt fedora

My newest toy, finished just in time to take to Gallifrey One next week! I'll do a full write up when I get some free time.

Re: Show your Dr. Who props!

Here’s my sonic screwdriver. My Dad made this for me when I was a kid, probably around 1984 or 85 I'd think, when the peak of the Dr Who (PBS driven) frenzy was going full strong in the US. Dad has a goofy sense of down-home humor, he always referred to it as the "Sonic nose picker"!
It’s made out of solid stainless steel! This was made to the drawings in the Dr Who Tech manual (which wasn't to scale) and approximated for size based on observations of the real one in Tom Baker's hands on TV. It weighs a lot, I'm sure you could use it as a handy weapon if you had to. I never realized there was a diagonal slot at the end until just recently.

At one point I had painted the head end, but when Dad took that part apart to add the stainless covering for the screw holding it together (and replacing the screw with stainless as well), he stripped the paint off. I'd actually lost track of this when I went into the Army, and one day a bunch of loose items I'd lost track of showed up from my folks, there it was. Trust me, I haven't lost track of it ever again.

Re: Show your Dr. Who props!

That looks very fine indeed! Your Pops is Tops :)
Thanks, I think so, too.
The Sonic was no big deal for Dad, he tinkers around with making stuff all the time. For example, he built a working, full size Civil War field gun, spoked wheels and all (he even cast every metal part of of bronze that didn't have to be iron), just because he thought it'd be cool to do it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v229/Maxcaliber/DigitalCannonPictures014.jpg
So turning out something like this on a lathe was like getting an artist to draw a stick figure.

Re: Show your Dr. Who props!

One of the most unusual objects to emerge from the fourth doctor's pockets (and there were many) was a Corgi toy Batmobile...

Unfortunately, 1960s Corgi Batmobiles mint sell for silly money, as do 1970s and even 1980s Corgi Batmobiles. So I bought a couple of the cheaper Eaglemoss Batmobiles...

Re: Show your Dr. Who props!

What's that red generator-looking thing in the same photo?

It's some sort of high-power switching thermionic valve.
The octal pins are on the right-hand end.
It's possibly a spare part for the transmitter on the roof of the BBC building. :D

Dad did a great job!

It is a Varian Klystron VA220 microwave oscilator valve, used in microwave transmission equipment. I have several of those as well.

It doubled as the Doctir's Etheric Beam Locator.

There was a toy-box at my Nan's that had a very battered Batmobile in, and now I think of it, a Yellow Submarine with bits missing... Not seen it in years, I may have to find out where it went.

What the hell is that thing in the lower left of the Talons screen cap? It looks like...erm...

Wait, wait...wait! I totally know this one!

It's something that:

A) Every Man Has
B) Every Man Claims He Would Never Touch, Unless It Was His Own
C) Every Man Seems To Be Overly Obsessed About... Always Comparing Who's Is Bigger.

It's a HAMMER, right...?

Dang... I am SO good at this! :ninja
