His and Hers sonics!
On the left is a fabulous interpretation of Romana II's sonic made by none other than Rassilon! It isn't 100% finished yet... I still need to add the coloured stripes to it, but Rassilon was clever enough to make this one retract just like the 4th Doctor's does.
Speaking of... on the right is an unparalleled version of the 4th Doctor's sonic made by RussRep. I'm still working out how to put the guts from my CO toy into it so that it'll make sounds, but otherwise I couldn't be more pleased with these two sonics.

Speaking of... on the right is an unparalleled version of the 4th Doctor's sonic made by RussRep. I'm still working out how to put the guts from my CO toy into it so that it'll make sounds, but otherwise I couldn't be more pleased with these two sonics.

I didn't realize Rassilon ever went to production on his Romanas. I'll have to see if he has any left. Looks fantastic. That and Russ's work is always top notch.

I purchased the Romana II from Rassilon recently. it was his prototype. He ultimately decided not to produce them, as it was far too labour intensive (or "fiddely" I believe is how he worded it) and he felt that it didn't compare to RussRep's version.
I personally love it for a few reasons. 1) It retracts... which, although not SA, is VERY cool, and makes total sense given that she engineered it from The Doctor's own and 2) it's a one-of-a-kind! It's far too small I think to even consider trying to make it make sounds. But I am about 80% done retrofitting my CO Tom Baker sound module into the Baker sonic from Russ.
BTW greatwazoo42, you have one of the most impressive sonic collections I've ever seen!

I'll keep you posted! I have so far had to completely destroy the toy. It's too bad, as I was hoping to make it into a static War Doctor Sonic... but Oh well.
I had to use a dremel to cut the battery case/PCM board down as small as it could physically go in order to fit, and as is it fits with only 1/6" to spare. But that happens to put the speaker right at the level of the open cut in the handle so volume should be good.
I have two things still to sort out:
1) When I cannibalised the toy I inadvertently cut one of the speaker wires. i'll need to find a way to resolder that to the PCM boad. I'm not so good with that, so it might take a tic to figure out. I did test the system by touching the wire back and everything still works.
2) I need to lengthen the yellow wires that connect the momentary switch. It should sit neatly in the top of the RussRep sonic (above the internal base that the central shaft threads into) and the legs on it should let it press into the grooves that are machined there. But I need the wires to be long enough so that I can remove the bottom endcap and let the batterybox/PCM/speaker assembly drop out to replace batteries. I also need to pass the wires through the holes in the internal base and work out a way to either quick disconnect them or solder them once the switch is installed.
I'll take some pics of what i have so far and post them in a tic...!

Some of the CO toys, including the 4th Dr Sonic Screwdriver, were designed by UK prop builder, Purple Blancmange. He may be able to offer tips. Although I am not sure how great his involvement was in the electronics.

Thanks to some helpful advice from Straker I was able to upgrade two of my RB Replica sonics.
Here is my completed Fifth Doctor sonic screwdriver. Basically I started with an RB Replicas Fourth Doctor sound version and upgraded it to a Fifth Doctor version with the following changes:
1) Painted the activation band on the center of the collar white.
2) Painted the emitter ring red
3) Added a screen accurate button magnet to the back of the emitter bullet in place of the replica "magnet" which entailed
--a) Stripping a button magnet of it's original paint.
--b) Glueing a 5mm high 1/2 inch diameter aluminum rod extender with a hole drilled in the center to the button magnet.
--c) Painting the button magnet and extender the same red as the emitter ring
--d) Cutting down a 3mm flathead screw to attach the new button magnet assembly.
4) Adding a small 2mm washer between the emitter ring and the neck bullet
All those changes also made the hole at the top of the collar and the slot and notched end of the handle align up right where I wanted them to as well. Added bonus.
And here is the Completed Fourth Doctor sonic. Not much changed on this one aside from adding the screen accurate button magnet - using the same methods that I used on the Davison version only with black paint - and the burgundy painted screw. Very happy about this upgrade.

"It's a mistake to clutter one's pockets, Harry..."
Way back yonder in September 2003, when a televisual revival of Doctor Who was akin to a written recollection of a dream in a gentleman's journal of impossible things (but in reality was only days away from being announced by Lorraine Heggessey), I began collecting Doctor Who inspired pocket props. My first two were a non-working metal Sonic Screwdriver and a pewter TARDIS key from The Who Shop in London.
Ten years on, and my collection has grown since those humble beginnings; helped considerably by that sixth dimension more commonly known as eBay.

The Doctor’s affects – replicas and likenesses:
3-D movie glasses (3-D movie glasses, as worn in a cinema whilst watching a 3-D film. The Doctor uses these to observe alternate-dimension residue as well as other time-space phenomena that are not usually visible to the naked eye. Several pairs).
Banana (Bananas are a good source of potassium. This one is from the groves of Villengard. Bananas are good!)
Books; several different types:
"Juggling for the Complete Klutz" by John Cassidy and B C Rimbeaux (1984 edition of the book, as used by the 7th Dr in "The Greatest Show in the Galaxy").
"The Time Machine" by H G Wells (1931 limited edition by Random House, the same hardback edition as read by the 7th Dr in the 1996 TV movie series pilot),
"The Doctor's Dilemma" by George Bernard Shaw (the same paperback edition as read by the 7th Dr in "Delta and the Bannermen"),
"Melody Malone" (a replica of the novel that the 11th Dr reads whilst in New York with Amy and Rory).

Diary, The Doctor's (replica of The Doctor's diary, as used by the 11th Dr; as new with crisp white pages).

Etheric Beam Locator (also useful for detecting ion-charged emissions. But in reality, a Varian Klystron VA220 valve used in microwave transmission equipment; one of these was used as the 4th Dr's Etheric Beam Locator in Genesis of the Daleks).
Everlasting matches (waterproof/windproof matches and strikers, being used to mimic the everlasting matches used by the Doctor in some of the novels).
Folding camera - Zeiss Ikon Nettar 515/2 (a German-made photographic camera, circa 1938. It looks cosmetically similar to the camera used by the 7th Dr in "Remembrance of the Daleks". It may not be the same model, but there are plenty of similarities, which makes me assume that the camera used in the story was a Zeiss Ikon Nettar. I have two of these; one is seemingly in a full working order and comes with original instructions, original paperwork circa 1938/1939, and a carry case. The other one is in a good cosmetic condition, but the timer does not work).
Handkerchief (fancy-looking, cotton handkerchief, in a Paisley style that is remarkably similar to the one carried by the 7th Dr).
Jammie Dodgers (2 replica Jammie Dodgers).
Jelly babies (several bags of the confectionary that is much favoured by The Doctor, as well as a pack of small paper bags).

SFX artist and props maker, Mike Tucker, used one of these pocket watches for the case of the 7th Doctor's pocket watch. I also have the silver tone snake pocket watch chain that Mike also used).
Viners Studio salad serving spoons (two sets of salad serving spoons, including two fork spoons of the same type that were used to make the alien-looking spoons "pilfered" by the 7th Doctor in "Time and the Rani").
"Zoids" toy - Saicurtis (this is the same Zoids toy that was used for the construction of the 7th Doctor's very valuable piece of coin collection in "Battlefield". I have two still in kit form and in their original boxes).
