Show off your MDF props!

Hit lowes yesterday, and they have a 3/4" x 4' x 8' sheet for about 37$.

Is this the normal range of price for this, or is there somewhere I can get it a bit cheaper?

Thanks
Chris

It must have went up. It used to be about $25 a sheet.

P00k1333: I think they mean water based primer that's sprayed on. Drywall compound is not sprayed on so it should work.

Yeah, MDF (as well as ALL lumber) did jump up in price quite a bit over the past couple of years. In fact, lumber is kind of like gasoline, meaning the price fluctuates up or down from week to week.

But to specifically answer your question, $35-$40 is pretty standard for a 4'x8' sheet of MDF in most areas of the country. :wacko

Cool, just wanted to check. I like to make sure to check prices on stuff here before I go out and buy.

I am assuming you can use a bandsaw to cut this stuff as well.

Never hurts to double check assumptions :lol

I would wear a mask if indoors cutting. MDF is great, but can be dangerous if breathed in.

For sealing, I swear by Shellac based primer. Zinsser makes a good spray for smooth finishes.

Cool. I working on a piece right now that might need it. Also, it's a good idea to spring for a new piece of MDF. I tried to save a little money and use an old piece that must have been exposed to too much humidity. Sanding just pulls up the surface fibers and routing/dremeling leaves fuzzy edges that are hard to sand clean.

Here are a few of mine.

First prop ever... Mini-Nuke from Fallout, still a WIP. Next up is the Fatman launcher (if I ever get this one finished.)

that´s real amazing stuff you have created here...I´ll give it a try when I start on building something...it´s something new to me to make such large things,lol...only made 1:25 and 1:87 scale scratchbuilding until today....
So I have to sit down and make some drawings for my CNC miling machine, lol
It´ll work with sheet styrene ,too?
