Show-off Thread: Nails Cigarettes from Kevin Smith films Mk 2.0

Good ol' fashioned show-off thread for something I've worked on the past couple of days thanks to the View Askew kick I'm on.

This is just the prototype, I'm looking for a better adhesive to use on securing the cellophane wrap but you get the idea.

I would compliment you but... I don't recognize it. :lol I love the viewaskew films but I can't recall seeing those before.

Anytime anyone is smoking in a View Askew film they're Nails brand cigarettes. The first showed up in Chasing Amy, but are omnipresent in the later films. In Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Clerks II this is the only brand of cigarettes Quick Stop carries. Silent Bob smokes Menthol Nails, Alyssa Jones smokes filtered Nails, Hooper X and Janeane Garofalo's character from Dogma smoke unfiltered Nails. I haven't gone and double-checked Mallrats for them, but I don't think they're there. Clerks 1 has real brands, but everyone just asks for a pack of cigarettes and are given something at random.

Chasing Amy design for the boxes was rather boring, and the Dogma ones had the "got nails?" lung picture on the back which seemed out of place since all cigarettes I've ever seen have the same image on front and back.

One day I may make the Nails Lights (image is a nail with wings) or the Nails Menthol like Bob smokes, but this will do for now.

Did you use a real pack of cigarettes to paste on or is it all from scratch? A cigarette cover on a real pack would be awesome and if the paper is thin enough would solve your cellophane problem.
Have you seen the lighter at the Viewaskew site?

All from scratch. Saw the lighter, it's part of what inspired me.

I'd thought of buying a real pack and using its cellophane to cover this pack but complete scratch is cheaper and makes me feel like not so big of a cheater. Plus I've found that there isn't complete uniformity in the size of hardpacks. Parliment and Marlboro (which I used for the sizing of this one) are slightly shorter than about everything else out there and at times a touch wider and/or deeper.

Plus I feel funny buying cigarettes when I'm not a smoker.

I'm working on the Nails Cigarettes Mk II graphics, and need some ironic text to put on there. Repeated study of the films shows that the lung seems to be on the back of all Nails packs, and there's a few lines of text on there. I'm trying to come up with something ironic, like "Smoking does not make you cool," or something to that effect. I'm thinking of throwing in "Available at all Quick Stop Groceries locations and other fine stores" in there as well since that's on the poster but I don't know if it "fits."

I'm much happier with this. It's even filled with fake cigarettes so it has the right feel and weight. There's a couple details that could be tweaked, but nothing I can't live with.
