Shiny and Robust armor?

I've been looking at ways to give foam a nice glossy look by the means of PVA THEN applying paint but I was wondering...
Could I PVA the costume, sand it and apply resin to further improve the shine?
I'm really looking for that expensive shine that is so attractive without having to take a much tough approach as I'm just about begin my FIRST build.
Well worth the time and money if this is successful!

Thanks!

PVA seal it, then either smooth cast resin or rondo. The only purpose the PVA glue serves is to seal the foam. The finish you're wanting is achieved through multiple light coats applied, sanded down in between coats, gradually from a medium grit to a fine grit. The painting part is super small in comparison to the amount of time you will spend preparing the surface.
