I have the opportunity to make a nice sized Serenity, like around 18", it would be 3D printed from accurate files. Would anyone be interested in it?

LOLOL... I think there would be enough interest in the beastie to do it Richard. ;) LOLOLOLOLOL 18 inches is good, but 22 to 24 inches would be AWESOME!!! Especially if it grown from the ZOIC files! (y)love:thumbsup

HA HA I was thinking the same thing, but didn't want to seem... somthing, so I didn't have that in my previous post.
But yes, a full 2 feet would be even better:love

Hey, just wanna let you guys know! QMX is doing a nice scale serenity, possible 18 to 25 in long with light up features. They might also offer a Nathan Fillion signature edition...I don't know how much this will retail but my guess would be in the $600 range...

Yeah... I remember. And thank you for the heads up reminder. :D However, this has been in the works for quite some time without success. Though QMX holds license for this, it seems that their ability to push forward the big projects has been somewhat limited. I think they had great intentions, but alas, it is proven progress that shows results. I can only hope that QMX can forward this project before their license expires. That would be nice. ;) If not, then at least there is an option of high quality with Richard later. ;) :D

No offense to QMX, but I'd much rather build and paint my own rather than buy a pre-paint, especially knowing it's a REL project.

I'll add my vote for a full 24" Serenity!!

I agree, I would only get one from REL, for my own reasons.
Besides, it will be a higher quality product - Based soley on the fact that you can't do better the Richard does, so no higher amount of quality could be reached:).

I'd say there's plenty of room for Serenitys of all kinds, makes and sizes. MR did pretty well with Star Wars, despite the existence of kits and fan made stuff and I'm sure QMX will do too, if and when they get round to making it happen.

Don't know if this means anything or not but the QMX website used to have a pretty prominent page about their upcoming Serenity; it doesn't seem to be there anymore.

OH and I would probably be in for a 24" Serenity depending on price.

Printed? Pardon my ignorance....what is printed? Would this be paper craft?

That would be printed as in, printed with a 3D printer.
It's also known as Stereolithography or Rapid Prototyping. It allows you to print out a 3D computer model in solid form.

You could say it's basically an inkjet printer that builds up an object by printing many thin layers of material on top of one another. Since you're building it up in slices, you can make the object hollow and include details inside right from the start, which wouldn't be possible with a milling machine. Of course, you couldn't mold those interior details, but it's still very cool.
