Firefly’s Serenity Hull Plate

I started this project several years ago, and we all know how shelved ideas are not always revisited, but I’m glad I was able to finally finish this one (well, two).

I started with several sheets of .125” white PVC board and after the addition of multiple layers of paint and some airbrushing, I am now a leaf on the wind.

And unfortunately, Alan Tudyk had to cancel his appearance at the Lexington Comic & Toy Con later this month, so now it will remain unsigned. But I’m happy to call this one done (and waiting for the next con).

Nice! I always find it funny how despite the beauty of the Papyrus font, its (understandable) overuse in business logos, signage, other films like Avatar, etc. will immediately stick out to me whenever I see it... except for Serenity. Maybe it was one of the first times I saw it, but for whatever reason, it just fits with this film for me as though it couldn't have been any other.

Mildly fun fact: the insignia apparently wasn't finalized until mid-production, as evidenced by the draft lowercase lettering appearing on an original chair back in my collection (used by script supervisor Jain Sekuler). Not quite the degree of logo shift as on Firefly, but an odd little quirk.

Hope you eventually get your meeting with Alan!

For a minute I thought you had a faint honeycomb pattern on the hull plate finish. That made it look like a composite panel vs. a metal plate.
