SE ROTJ boba fett 98% finished

Re: SE ROTJ boba fett

Thanks for the comments guys, means a lot.

Robert- Im 18 now, but thank you very much for the compliments. Yes I have been on bobamkers site, most of my soft parts are his, Daz's stuff is top notch across all the boards, I had the opportunity to paint one of his helmets which are also amazing workmanship.

Slave1pilot- Thank you very much, means a lot coming from someone with the painting skills you have.

Well anyways im back at the fett. Things have been really hectic for me recently but its all started to die down a bit, so I can now start working at my fett again. Ive been working away at getting my helmet ready, and last night I did the last big bit of prep work in cutting out the back key slots. Today I just finished up applying the physical damage to the lid using a dremel, and now all it needs is a quick go over with some 1200 grit sandpaper. What do you think?

The visor isnt the final one, nor is it securely held in place. With the awesome weather we're having wales, im planning to start painting this on Tuesday, so watch this space :D
Also my RF stalk is aluminium, does anyone have any ideas on how to attach the RF to it? My RF is a terminalfettlers if that makes a difference.
Thanks,

Welsh

Re: SE ROTJ boba fett

Thank you very much guys.

Okay so ive been busy working on the helmet, its taking a little longer than usual but I'll explain that once the paintjob is finished. So having prepped the helmet and applied the physical damage, I then added the first layer.

The silver is the only rattle can I use other than the primer. I find that once applied and prepped, it really does look like a metal finish that I really like.

Only downside is that if you apply it to heavily, the paint will start to have that orange peel texture, so thin misting layers are done, takes about 2-3 hours going to the lid every 20 minutes but its worth it.

After leaving the silver dry fully over night, I then gave it a very gentle buff with some 1500 grit wet & dry. This will hopefully help the other paints to stick to this, while also removing any imperfections that were on the paint.

I then carefully masked up the back panels as thats what I intend to paint first, get the hardest part out of the way :lol

Next I took the PDF template files ( I forgot who created these but they are incredible, so thanks) And using the separation files, took the silver layer, And scaled them to the size of the helmet im working on and printed it out. After cutting it out, it lines up almost perfectly with the actual panels.

Being a bank holiday weekend, all of the shops are shut so thats as far as I can go with the helmet at present. With the templates now printed out, all I need to do is place graphite paper underneath and trace the damage on, then onto painting the second layer :)

Re: SE ROTJ boba fett

Thank you very much for the compliments QG, really means a lot being my first full suit. Although im actually 18 now, guess I should update my profile info :p

Thanks for the advice Jasco, im actually already a member there, although ive found that most of the members on there are on TDH, which is the probably the best place for fett. Ive also got this WIP on my local garrisons boards, so anything thats not up to standard will get pointed out over there.

Im off out now tomorrow now to purchase all the paints, masking fluid, brushes and propellants for the paint up, should hopefully have the first layer on soon.

Re: SE ROTJ boba fett

Thanks mate :)

Update time,
Managed to go out and get all the paints, thinners etc... for the project.
So firstly Using the stencils I printed out and some graphite paper or wax paper,

DSCF1278.jpg

I then placed the graphite paper underneath the stencil and placed it on the helmet. Then drawing around the details and scratches, it transfers straight onto the helmet.

Then its the usual masking process followed by applying the correct layer of paint.

DSCF1285.jpg

I then repeated this process using the different layers of stencil for each color, when each colour was dry, I buffed it over with some 1500 grit sandpaper, this was done until I completed the back panels.

Really happy with how it turned out, I think the scaling and positions is decent as well. I found Using the stencils is so much quicker surprisingly than free handing it. If the weather is still nice now over the weekend I'll start working on the dome and lower cheeks.
Until then,

Re: SE ROTJ boba fett

Hey heatshock mate, I followed your build thread for your clone over on the UKG boards, very nice.
Yeah the gauntlets are a pain, but they look good when done. Ive since sold mine and purchased another set.
The JP is all Bobafett UK, as well as the soft harness, although he has a more accurate pack out now. Colours I used for it were:

Plasticote grey primer (used this for the damage on the white)
Plasticote brilliant silver

Humbrol

Black 33
White 34
Blue 109
red 73
Yellow 154
Red 20 (top of the rocket)

Re: SE ROTJ boba fett

Very nice mate, I think I recognize that helmet as I almost bought one, not from a welshman is it?

Got some more work done today and last night, really happy with the out come.
Same process as the rest of the lid, this time using grey 79 and green 78. Some of the main scratches were then applied while more finer details will then be added on later topically. The green on the back panels looks a little bright but it looks darker in person. What do you think?

Re: SE ROTJ boba fett

You have amazing paint skills! Please, add the mandibles red before the upper cheeks black, you will love it with the red ON!

Re: SE ROTJ boba fett

Ive already started to mask up the black lol. I did the black first last time so I feel more comfortable doing it this way. Cheers for the compliment aswell :D

Re: SE ROTJ boba fett

Another update to show you guys,
Managed to get this done pretty quickly, masking it was the biggest pain but I think it came out well.
Masked the cheeks up applied grey 79, then once dried removed old silver masking, re masked the areas as well as the grey sections then sprayed black 33. Piece still needs to be buffed with some wire wool so forgive the little bits of masking fluid. I also played around with a pastel on the left cheek.
What do you guys think?
