Hey guys does anyone know where to get a good sculpting armature for sculpting Masks, Helmets Etc. I have no one near me to do a good lifecast and i wanna sculpt some Sci Fi Helmets, Masks etc in the near future so can anyone recommend me a good Head armature thats close to an average human head size of say 24 to 25 inch.

Thanks

Johnny

why not ust use a styrofoam head? they are cheap (you might even get one for free from wig stores etc)
and you can sculpt on that.

Just so you know, the styrofoam heads they sell at Sally Beauty(and most of the little hair stores near me) are a little small, and tilted to the side. That might not be a big deal for what you're doing, but just so you know that they're asymmetrical. If you're making stuff to fit a man's head, you might need to account for more space.

at craft stores you can usually get stryofoam heads that are standard sized tho.

i know that even here in narnia, where nothing is readily available, our craft store sells one male styrofoam head without base, and a female one with base
alltho the cheaper one costs 10.99 (euros thatis) so its a little too expensive for me for just a styrofoam head.
you could allways make your own by glueing together styrofoam to a block and carving it out :D

I own the Monster Makers armature, and think the neck ia small on it. I like the look of the CFX armature.

Thanks guys. Im not interested really in a styrofoam Head. Im looking for a professional quality sculpting armature. Ill have at the CFx one. Cheers Guys

the real question here is: what do you want to sculpt for? do you wanna sculpt your own masks? or do you wanna sculpt masks for selling them?

because if its mainly for your own use, i would try and get a lifecast. its not the hardest thing in the world to do, takes a few hours, and if you explain one or 2 friends what to do and show them videos, everyone could handle alginate or similar.
it also seems cheaper to me (i dont know what alginate costs, as we only have other life cast stuff here for sale, but that costs about 20 bucks for a big kit that will be enough for the head. add some plaster which is not that expensive and some plaster bandages for a mother mold, youre probably a little cheaper than the storebought bust)

Thanks for the message. I have done plenty of lifecasts before but its very hard to get someone out here in the middle of the countryside to sit for a lifecast. Thats my problem. Ideally i want a lifecast of myself to sculpt prosthetic make up, silicone masks etc that will fit me but its even harder to get someone to do a lifecast for me.

I also offer Full head Sculpting Armatures and the Diameter of the Head/Brow is 24inches
