Screen Accurate Millennium Falcon Cockpit (CG Model)

completed an essential component...

Hey S,

Check this out... Whether it's good or bad news, I made an interesting "discovery". I was looking over screens grabs from RotS and comparing them to ANH and noticed that the set designers couldn't find the original pilot/indicator lens and bezels when they built the set for the Blockade Runner. Again, I'm not sure whether this is good or bad...

RotS - Note how small the lenses are and their location

ANH - Note their size and location

Note the lights in the black recessed areas :)

Anywho... thought that was interesting :)

I did notice that, and it worried me too a bit. If they can't find them... what chance do we have? I mean, yes that one guy found the Wild-Barfield boiler lights... but we need buckets of them... one of these days, there'll be a break in this case.

Unbelieveable! I'm really amazed by your skills with this program! And btw, you and this thread were a big factor which started me getting into 3D modeling myself, I'd like to say thanks now!

You can make Star Wars 7 now. You got the falcon, you got the two characters anybody really cares to see. This could be that fantastic all-cgi Star Wars Lucasfilm failed to make.

Hi, I am a new member, but I have been following this thread for quite some time (great stuff, by the way!).
One of the images you posted - the blueprints for the ramp - got me thinking. I am really bothered by the slope of the ceiling - it makes no sense and wastes so much space, not to mention there is no way to access the docking ring.
MF_Ramp_Raised_A.jpg
Even if the ceiling raises with the ramp, you still have a silly floor height where, looking from the ring corridor, the floor first slopes down, and then gently slopes up towards the docking ring, which is still not accessible, unless you add some stairs.
Not the best solution, especially if you are trying to load heavy cargo through docking ring.

This got me thinking, and I came up with a solution which stays true to the movies, and allows for the level floor and access to the docking ring.
Not the most elegant solution, mind you, but it kind of works.
Here it is, in case it might be of interest to anyone.

Basically, the ceiling reconfigures to become the floor once the ramp is raised.
Now, this might look a bit dangerous to the crew, but a few sensors should take care of that.
Note that the ramp as seen in the movies will crash anyone standing on it into the ceiling when it raises anyway.

Wow that's a great idea actually, the ramp has always bothered me and that seems like a good solution!

just heard this from Damien Slattery who curates a huge collection of rare star wars images...

"I also recall that Star Wars fanclub had a competition in the early 80s and the prize was a console from the actual cockpit at Elstree Studios... I recall it in 1983/84 and from a British Star Wars magazine. That is all I have. I was crushed enough not to win so will never forget waiting for the winning announcement."

anyone know anything about this?

if the rumor of one being built for the new movies turns out to be true, it might be extremely screen accurate lol
joking aside, back in the day disney did something similar in the past for 2000 leagues under the sea. i don't recall if they used the actual set of the nautilus or if it was just mostly recreation( they certainly had the screen used pipe organ however. it now lives in the haunted mansion i've heard).

Hey S,

Just checked out your Blog update! Love the Ralph McQuarrie / Joe Johnston concept interior! It reminds me a lot of 2001: ASO. Amazing! It is an interesting take on the interior Would be fun to see that full scale as well. :)
