Screen Accurate Millennium Falcon Cockpit (CG Model)

if they rotate on the axis of the knob, that would require a hole to be placed in the large rectangular base?

This is a tricky part to work out, I'm not sure if the whole piston is in there for these. Just putting this idea up for inspection.

There is something there at the same position as the piston though.

W,

You mentioned these straps before... they are still readily available. My question, how do they rotate on the knob axis? :) hmmmmmm

Yes! Lets not forget Sofakings efforts. The cockpit is looking sweet Sofaking! (maybe I should head over to his build thread and tell him there ;) )

Hi V,

Thanks so much! The build could NOT have happened without Starkillers 3D work. :)

If there is a hole in the bottom, one could easily mount the 'strap' on a potentiometer and get som sort of rotation function out of it... I might be wrong about the whole thing though...

I don't know if this is a known pic or not – or if it is even helpful, but I figured I would share it.

Still working on this one but here's something I just noticed, this version of the grip is tilted back slightly on the hi-fi knob's axis - in the way we are looking for.

I'm wondering if the piston un-screws, the clip put in, then screwed back on.

Can see on the two nearest overhead grips here that there is something in the same place as the pistons, chances are it is a similar part but without the front/thin end of the piston.

Trying to find a shot of the part sticking out at 90 degrees to the grip. It's clipped on and around the grip I think.

Heh, yeah I've seen this one but I've been intentionally ignoring it... so much detail to potentially obsess over... Thank you though!

So, regarding your theory that the extended shaft has been removed: it's not impossible, but I have a couple of reservations.

1) take a look at the rearview bluescreen shot I posted: the first two from the left seem pretty straight forward, you're looking at the round band and the hi-fi knob, but the third one looks more like just a shaft. I've been able to replicate that pretty well in silhouette using a lever with a full piston

2) when the tie fighter flies overhead after the Falcon arrives at Alderaan, Han reaches up to activate one or more of the levers. Now this is a bit thin, but bear with me: He reaches up, and pulls his hand back quickly as if tugging on something, which would make sense if he was pulling a forward pointing shaft, but less sense if he was rotating the lever by just the round part.... make sense?

still, could be wrong. Man, I wish they would have taken just ONE picture of that area. Just one, c'mon! ... ah well. Maybe someday it will be crystal clear.

...if indeed he is pulling on anything. There is a shot in ROTJ of Wedge reaching up to flip switches...but there is nothing but canopy (or in the studio, air) above him.

You do make a very compelling and convincing case for the whole part in use there, plus, how cool would it look. If the loop diameter is right then I think you are as close as can be on it for sure. I'll put the scene on loop for a bit and see what jumps out.

Nurse?! Coffee!! Naow!!! :D

Heh, glad it's a pursuasive argument. We'll see what the screen shows.

Happy hunting!

S,

Here are a few shots...

To be honest... I can't tell... I know that doesn't help... It appears the lever Han "may" have pulled back is an "actual" lever (Left side closest to the center)

I think the ESB canopy box is totally different. (maybe because they had the same problem we're having: they went to rebuild it and nobody remembered what they had used/could figure out what the hell they were looking at in their own reference photos, heh). The one I designed, which you have a copy of, was based on the ESB version. Although I agree that there seem to be some parts that are just plain old levers of some kind, and not the loop design of the others.

The handles on the ESB version are definitely different from ANH. Somewhere on this thread, someone posted a photo looking up from the dashboard, with Lando at the controls I think, and you can see the outline of the handles (which is what I based my design on) I thought for a while they might be a handle off of an ejector seat. Those often come with a ejection trigger handle between the legs of the pilot, that are about the same shape (though I haven't seen on that really fits the bill)

I had a feeling, like the rest of the cockpit, they changed those top boxes - it only makes sense. I thought they might be the same handles used on the SnowSpeeders to pull the canopy closed?

Hey S,

Just went through this entire thread... again... What an amazing transformation from the first renders of the cockpit to now! And the good news... should you decide to create the ESB version, just move the front of the cockpit forward a few feet! hint hint hint ;)

OUTSTANDING!
