Maruska, Thanks! and a hat tip to you for the use of your awesome chairs.

Vaderios, I think I'm not going to put too much more into cloud city, or else I'll end up building the whole thing, but the change of scenery was nice (not to mention that with the environment map, the render engine went way way faster)

this one is photomatched from one of the matte paintings, but that's as far as I plan to go for now.

Thorst, thanks a lot! I really appreciate it.

I'm so loving these. Can't you take her to Earth. Would be nice to see the falcon rendered next to President Obama or the Eiffel Tower or something like that.

Right! ...or on a farm next to the barn & silo, or at a shopping center, at the white house, on the beach, on the field of a football stadium, at the airport, etc.

I mentioned the corn field because I forwarded a pic to Starkiller of an open field hoping he could use/place the MF in a real world situation. :)

Great Cloud City renders, MF looks nice under an orangey sky.

Don't she though? No wonder I made so many of them.

alright guys, alright, keep your pants on. I might do some renders outside the star wars universe (like the mentioned corn-field, thanks sofaking) an airfield was my second thought. But we'll see. In order to do those they have to be composites, and I'm not as good at that as I am rendering in fully built locations. Once I run out of actual star wars environments where the falcon has landed, what's sort of next on my docket for scenery changes is a number of McQaurrie locations from his other paintings. Kind of funny: his illustration style is so clean and geometric, it's perfect for CG replicas.
but then after that...we'll see.

Wow! Are you gonna recreate all the matte paintings from the movie with screen accurate renders? :)

-Angel

I've been noticing that I would have a really difficult time doing this. No two cloud city matte paintings have quite the same buildings, even if they're in the same location. So trying to reconcile that would be quite a headache.

THAT IS SWEET! Beautiful renders! Are you going to build the cockpit? :)

HEY HEY... I see some throttle greeblies!

heh, yep. Knew you'd spot those right away. I stole greebles right off the falcon. It's amazing what a little kitbashing does for a fairly basic model.

I did built a little bit of its cockpit a while back, based on some Joe Johnston sketches, but I didn't get too far. Somebody needed my help on another project *ahem*

" !!".......(Speachless!!)

Now that I've recovered.......thats a model I'd love
Have you plans to render the McQ version I'm making?.....I'd love to see that

Your work is truly jaw-dropping
John

this inspires me to pull the half finished "linear falcon" i left on hiatus last year out of it's storage space in the closet and put another month into it.
hopefully i get about 90 percent done untill i put it away untill the next layoff.

I just got all caught up on this thread after being away for so long
Man this is by far the coolest thread on the RPF!!! (IMHO)
Stinson ,you are one Prolific 3D modeler! I don't know where you find the time ...don't' neglect that girl-freind!

Curious ? did you also model those Storm Troopers?
- or grab them off the web, they look nicer than most of the free meshes available, perhaps it's because of those excellent surroundings.

either way -Nice Work!
SofaKing, great work on the "analog" Cockpit too!

been 3D modeling longer than I care to admit, mainly Maya, 3DSMax and ZBrush
As Ive been doing more and more SLA,RP and CNC stuff -Ive been transitioning to SolidWorks

I have to say I'm impressed that you do all this in the free version of Sketchup..I think may have payed too much for my apps...hmmm :unsure
How's the Boolean functions in Sketch-up?

TIE Helmet 3D Proto.jpg
here's a little snippet of something I'm doing for the improved Nic'en TIE
This is just raw 3D-scan data , I will have a much nicer re-topo'ed version that will be more useful --hope to make it available to folks over at Sci-Fi 3d

If you place the Falcon in a corn field be sure too leave a "Falcon"-shaped set of Crop circles behind ;)
