Scratchbuilt 1:350 USS Reliant

Re: WIP 1:350 USS Reliant I'm building for a friend

Thank you, i used a 2mm or a 3 mm drill bit for the circular ports....i used the same drill bit for either side of the eliptical ones and just cut/carved the rest out.....needle files were my friend!

I filled the holes with a polyester resin, which took about a week to cure....(first time for everything!) Then wet sanded them flush.....

Rich

Thank you for that info. You make it sound so easy. :) For the windows, I’ve seen the bubble issues that can happen from using dental acrylic and I’ve seen the TrekWorks guy use Micro Kristal Klear but I don’t know how strong that dries. Never thought of using polyester resin.

I just want to echo what others are saying already, great work there. I think you sold yourself short by saying you weren't talented. I think your doing a top notch job. The lighting looks great and as others have said the scratch building looks clean. great lighting too. Also thanks for sharing the reference.

I'm at the stage where i'm about to fit the top hull and all the filling/light blocking shenanigans that entails!

Re: WIP 1:350 USS Reliant I'm building for a friend

Seriously, guys, i'm taken aback by the wonderful feedback and comments..

...i started out on this with virtually no idea on how to do anything......i'm just winging it and come across problems ALL THE TIME...lol.

I basically just make it up as i go, some things work, a lot of things don't and it's just a case of trying again, or going with something different.

You people, and the guys at SSM etc. inspire me and keep me going!

More progress pics soon!

when you do great work , you get great responses. folks have talked about doing this several times, but nothing has been done so far that ive seen. and im neck deep in models right now to even think about scratch building this. so im tickled pink some one with your talent is doing this....this will be exciting to watch the progress.
