Scratchbuilt 1:350 USS Reliant

Re: WIP 1:350 USS Reliant I'm building for a friend

I still cant believe this isn't an out of the box reliant kit I'm staring at.

Re: WIP 1:350 USS Reliant I'm building for a friend

I would cast it if i had the money and know how......the know how i can learn....the money....well, that's the real trick, isn't it?

Oh my sweet little baby *****, this looks AMAZING!! You got every detail, even the most subtle ones. Hat's off to you sir, I cant wait to see the final results.

Re: WIP 1:350 USS Reliant I'm building for a friend

Long time lurker, first time poster. I registered just to say HOLY (Expletive Deleted) that is a thing of pure beauty! For some reason I've had an infatuation with the Reliant since I was a kid and seeing it at this scale made me feel like a 5yr old again. Can we start a donation page so we can help him get setup casting this?

Re: WIP 1:350 USS Reliant I'm building for a friend

That's a very kind offer modelnutz,

as this is a comission build, i don't think the client would be very happy with the risks involved with shipping this across the pond and back again....

VERY tempting though......if i could have a cast....i could refine it to make masters....hmmmmm.....could do the nacelles in transparent resin.....hmmmmmm

Or, you could tell the customer that he will receive the patterns back as well as a free kit to boot !
Also, The modifications could take place this side of the pond.....and, of course the nacelles could be cast in translucent resin !

As for the shipping risks....isn't that what insurance is all about ? ;-)
I could advise as to a safe way to pack your work for max. safety.
The technique is used by toy sculptors to ship fragile wax masters across the US.

As a final pitch....I can provide industry referrals if you're nervous about that sort of thing.
I've been at this for over 15 years and I would LOVE to help get this beauty out into the world !

Ball's in your court ;-D

Re: WIP 1:350 USS Reliant I'm building for a friend

OK, paint time....i've started doing the weird greyish gridwork that Reliant has everywhere! Loads of small rectangles will be added later! I think it's going really well, just very time consuming....

Re: WIP 1:350 USS Reliant I'm building for a friend

More 1:350 USS Reliant painting.....i've a feeling this'll look better when i do the white over spray.....i might have to respray the gridwork to provide a bit more contrast....painty 005.JPGpainty 002.JPGpainty 003.JPGpainty 004.JPG

The detail you are putting into the paint along is amazing. Painting rather than wallpaper with decals always looks better IMHO but man does it take a lot more time. Great work so far.
