Scratch Built Delivery Ship 3011AD, The Nylon Gag MK.1 FINISHED.

Re: Scratch Built Red Bull Delivery Ship 3011AD, The Nylon Gag MK.1

You've completely blown me away. Even at this stage, this is perfect.

Afternoon RPF Movers and Groovers

Once again i am blown away by your very generous comments, Thank you so much, I appreciate you taking the time to write something, it really does mean a tremendous amount coming from such a skilled group of people such as yourselves.

Glad you like the colour choice, some of the other colours are prooving rather difficult to decide on, the whole back section for example, i have painted several different shades, some highlights and some shadows using bright brass, crome silver, aluminium, steel and black. I'm then going to give it a very light base coat, but i'm still undecided on the final colours of the whole ship so i've had to pause on the back section until i get a better idea on final colours.

But I'm sure a solution will precent itself when the time is right.

Some of the techniques i use are things i've read about online and some my Dad taught me, most i just picked up watching him work, I wish he could see this ship (RIP Pops).

Onwards and Upwards people.

Skinned the top center bits of the wings using 0.020" styrene sheet. These are just taped into rough position for now.

Next, i started work on the radar system.
This is the main base that goes on the ship, the skin surround and some of the internals.

Assembled with the radar base, which is a bike wheel, the rim sanded away and with an additional back plate added.

I then started a frame for the main dish supports

Then i attached the main dish elements which are made from three bike radiators

Picture275_zps29cc4ee3.jpg

Then the LNB, can you guess what it's made from?

Picture281_zpsbb4f7bf9.jpg

I then just started layering more small details all over.

And in position, does it look too big to you?

Maybe with a primer coat it will blend a bit better.

Back to masking, painting, removing masking, sanding, repainting...........etc.

More soon
Take care

I love how the dish is futuristic, yet it seems to retain elements of our current satellites... (you didn't go over-board with the whole "futuristic" thing.) It makes it entirely REAL, and conclusive. LOVE IT!!! :)

The Dish is perfect size! I think a layer of primer will help you decide. But it looks great!

Hey, not only about the size. EVERYTHING I see around here is more than perfect.:love

Re: Scratch Built Red Bull Delivery Ship 3011AD, The Nylon Gag MK.1

really recognizable as a radar dish, especially in primer!

Re: Scratch Built Red Bull Delivery Ship 3011AD, The Nylon Gag MK.1

Wow. One of the coolest builds I've seen. And to think I almost didn't click because I don't like Red Bull... :p

Re: Scratch Built Red Bull Delivery Ship 3011AD, The Nylon Gag MK.1

I had a weird thought, and I hesitate to ask... your skills make me happy to know that I can still color in the lines... Is this vehicle intended for space travel only? I would be curious to know how all your awesome, but delicate circuitry would survive planetary decent. I know, I know... sci-fi... not real... but you have put a lot of mechanical genius into your ship, and I was just curious. :)

It uses a Special Atmospheric Forward Firing Lazer Generated Deflector Ray-shields, plus everything is made from Super Heat Resistant High Density CarboAlumaTainium. (SHR-HD-CAT)

Sorry, again I thought it was obvious :love

Cor blimey ole son!! Work of pure genius! Haven't done any model building in years, but this inspiring me to have a go at my first scratch build!

Ffanx Mate,

Did it as a kid, had a very small on going stash but no where to do it that was permanent enough, emigrated, got married got settled, inherited tools when me Pops died, waited another 5 years then I decided to build a mancave and then make a space ship.
You should give it a go
Just build something mate.

Interesting. I was under the assumption that it supplied inverse reactive current for use in unilateral phase detractors and was capable of automatically synchronizing cardinal grammeters - also known as the "Retro-Encabulator". Rockwell Industries is working on that now!

I might be wrong...

Sorry but you are wrong, The Retro-encabulator powers the coffee maker :lol

But seriously, i made up the Carbo-Alumi-Tanium material idea about a year ago and last Monday on Top Gear (English version) they said that the new Pagani Zonda Cinque is made from Carbon-Titanium.

http://www.carbonfibergear.com/carbon-titanium-will-be-seen-first-in-the-pagani-zonda-cinque/

I knew i should of Patented the idea when i had it..... :unsure

We all have those "Should'uh, Would'uh, Could'uh" moments...

Re: Scratch Built Red Bull Delivery Ship 3011AD, The Nylon Gag MK.1

As far as the paintjob goes, I had assumed this would be painted like a current Red Bull delivery van: silver & blue, with big logos.

Is that what you had in mind?

Re: Scratch Built Red Bull Delivery Ship 3011AD, The Nylon Gag MK.1

I love this thread. Because of it I am about to become a born again modeller. I just pulled a load of Tamiya F1 and tank kits out of the loft, started up a greeblies box, and laid in some sheet styrene.

I'm going to refurb something I built in 1983, and then build that ship that never got started when life got in the way.

Much of it will shamelessly plagiarise what you have shown us all here.

Mr Gag, I salute you.

AND you ride a (proper) motorcycle. Kudos.
