Got interrupted finishing a few Tshirt designs, so just a small update.
Shroud/barrel assemblies, bolts and clips finished painting, except for light metalizer on bolts.
Weekend update:
Grips applied to handles and stock attachments cut.
Front and rear sights complete.
Magazine release attached and housing complete.
All parts assembled for test fit. Trigger mounted and fire select switch finished. Adjustment measures for plotted outer receiver cover noted. I should re-plot those these week at work and check fit to begin final refining and assembly.
Finally made a good bit of progress. After tweaking the panels several times, I got the side receiver panels plotted. (Unfortunately the only parts of this build that I can computer cut!) Here are the panels attached and grips clamped while contact cement sets.
Completed receivers with grips attached.
Detail view of fire select switch placement.
Pics showing mini earth magnets to hold magazine in place.
Another progress update.
Bolt handles PlastiDip-ped and ready to be inserted.
Trigger guards cut and heat bent to shape. Disregard scorching on one, that part inserts into handle.
Receiver complete!! Bolt assembly glued in place on receiver. A shot from the rear showing putty sealing small gaps.
Front and rear sights placed and secured.
Overall view of main gun bodies.
Nearly done! A trip to the hardware store for a few pieces of aluminum strips and springs for the collapsible stocks. The stock on mine was OK in the folded position but a little shaky when extended. I think I know the problem and should be an easy fix. I hope to ID a few of the 'detail' bits that I left off my gun (trigger pin, various pins on receiver and add those for better accuracy). Then final sanding, priming and painting!
Mid Week update:
Collapsible stock hardware with initial paint coat.
Trigger guards attached.
Stock attachments drilled and secured to handle.
Full view showing stocks in folded positions.
Next comes final sanding and a few more details parts to add.
Then priming and painting main body. The barrel assembly and bolt handle will be the last parts to attach.
Got the final sanding (pre primer) finished last night. Here are both guns assembled for a final test fit before priming.
Close up of assembled gun.
Stocks with first coat of primer.
Should get first primer coat on gun bodies tonight and can then check for rough spots that need additional sanding/puttying. If everything looks OK, then I'll apply second primer coat to dry overnight.
