Wow, it looks fantastic Spencer. :cool

Re: S&W M76 Machine Gun Scratchbuild - Beginning Painting on Joker Versions

Just a quick update: 1st coat of primer down. I've already noticed a few spots that need additional sanding. Should get that and second primer coat tonight and can start finish painting Saturday night. Unless I hit the pub.:confused

Final weekend update!!
Sanded down first primer coat on Friday night and applied second coat after puttying a few small areas I didn't like.

I got the first finish matte black coat done Saturday night.

Another light sanding Sunday morning and second black coat applied Sunday evening. If everything looks OK on Monday, I'll remove the sleeve protecting the inner bolt, drill hole for bolt handle and attach barrel/shroud assembly and stock. AND DONE!

In case you're wondering, the scratched up paint on the shroud is for the epoxy to adhere better. I meant to have masked that off before painting, but forgot.

I'm really jealous of what you've done here... how much $$$ do you think the finished gun will cost? Material wise?

Thanks for the compliment.

Honestly, its kinda hard to tell. I am the head of the art department at a company that makes signage, store displays and digital graphics. I buy alot of the scrap sintra and styrene cut offs from jobs for a pretty good price. I also have a bunch of stuff left over from my last job (same thing) that I still use. So I only have to buy paints, glues, PVC pipe, wood and various hardware for most of the props I make.

Youve come a long way with this project, congratulations.

Re: S&W M76 Machine Gun Scratchbuild - Beginning Painting on Joker Versions

Can't wait for pics of the finished piece...and to actually see it in person. :cool

Re: S&W M76 Machine Gun Scratchbuild - Beginning Painting on Joker Versions

No new pics but got the barrel/shrouds epoxied into place last night. I was going to drill the holes for the bolt handle, until I realized my 5/16th bit was slightly bent and made oval shaped holes. So I've borrowed one from work and will get the holes drilled and handles glued in place this evening. Then, just have to attach stocks and they're done! I will get some hirez pics with my SLR tonight and get them posted tonight or tomorrow.

I appreciate all the comments and encouragement throughout this build. I've usually been one to wait until I've completed, or nearly completed, a project before posting any pics, but posting during this build (and reading your replies) has kept me focused and prompted me to work better than I usually do, thereby completing these a lot sooner than I normally would.
Thanks again.

It's going to be my absolute pleasure to have this piece in my collection, Spencer. I can't wait for you and everyone else to see the display it's going to be a part of....should be amazing. :cool

Re: S&W M76 Machine Gun Scratchbuild - Beginning Painting on Joker Versions

You should make the barrel come off and a slightly bigger silencer version!!!

Well, the one I made myself it does come off, but that's more a result of me never quite finishing it. If I had a way to thread the PVC, I might have done that. Without, I would be afraid that with time, if they were changed much, they might get loose and not want to stay in well. Maybe I'll try the silencer on mine, just to see how it looks.

Re: S&W M76 Machine Gun Scratchbuild - Beginning Painting on Joker Versions

Well, they're finally done! I had planned to do a whole photo shoot last night with lighting and everything, but I had some old friends that I hadn't seen in a while call me out for beer. Seems they're trying to get our softball team back together for another season if we can scrounge enough players.
But, I did manage to take a quick teaser shot when I got home.

So here is the finished Joker Model S&W M76 sub-machine gun!

**Yes, it is missing the stock. I just didn't want to risk banging up the paint taking pics with a buzz!**
