Limited Run RUN CLOSED * DL-44 ESB Blaster Machined Parts Set * RUN CLOSED

I think it looks real nice! This is after spraying the whole Denix?

Maybe get some shots outside, in indirect sunlight, we'll get a better grasp of how the finish looks that way.

More or less, got some bits and pieces left that I will do tomorrow after work.
The sun has been out all day so will try and to a more a la naturale photo shoot at some point. Would be fun however to wait until snowfall and shoot it laying in the snow Hoth style :D

i really like it!! what exact brand did you use?!

i finished stripping mine today.. still more in the cracks and crevices

Guys, I might be late to the party: But I didn't wanna go through the whole bluing-process, so I experimented with some black transparent spray paint (the kind you use for tail lights on cars to fade them black)

Here is the result after one quick go to see how it would turn out:
(Please do not pay attention to my disgusting bathroom floor)

And honestly, it looks freaking antique!
The pic doesn't do the finish justice, and I just focused on the front half/barrel, I'm gonna go over the rest later.

It is still a bit shiny but that can easily be fixed with some steel wool and/or matt clearcoat.

Really nice look! How solid is the spray paint? I have bad experience with Tamiya smoke paint, which can be scratched away easily. But the llok auf smoke paint over metal is really convincing.

Did you use anything special to strip off the paint? Or just old fashioned elbow grease?

Sean

tons of sand paper... living nightmare. this is the second time i've done it

first was the factory denix paint which was easy, but at the time thought it was horrible

this second time was my paint job of high temp flat black, then 3 coats of BBQ black... living nightmare removing that....

i was tempted to use the aerosol stripper i use on super charger rotors but was afraid it would eat the denix

I think you would've been fine with some simple paint stripper, but I understand your concern!

I've never had a problem with the rotors, but they are a different aluminum. i also am wondering if the aluminum black is the reason for the pitying on my denix? so chemicals right now are kinda scary to me

It's tougher stuff than you may think. It really is.

Still, I'll say I understand your trepidation!

Edit: Whoa, I like, never use that word! I feel like such a smarty-pants today!

I had my Denix's bead blasted and there is a significant amount of casting defects that are noticeable on the mag wells. They are more visible when the surrounding metal is cleaned and the pitting retains the prior coloration. I use aluminum black and then give the surface a coating of a stove black product that fills those voids. I find that the voids add a bit of a used look to the props.

It's basically a clear coat with some black mixed in it, but yeah it is really solid =)

Unfortunately it's from a Swedish hardware store that only supply with their own brand of tools, parts etc. So you can't find it outside of Scandinavia :unsure

What I should've done. Ha! Sometimes while disassembling a thing, I DO remember to snap a quick photo, but not this time!
