Rubies Supreme Stormtrooper

For trooping in someone your size i would actually recommend the FX armour with a different helmet i won't comment on the MR budget helmet because i have no idea if the 501st accept those or not, there was a guy on mepd.net a while ago doing a great deal on basic FX kits without the helmet not sure if they're still on offer.
The RT-mod armour is a good option for the larger person too and the helmets more in proportion to the originals.
Troopermasters suits i believe are slightly larger than the movie derived suits also and definately the most accurate of the three options.
The movie cast derived suits would probably be too small for you i reckon.

The FX will be the least expensive of the three.

unfortunately the 501st is like many other sci-fi clubs in that it can be a haven for small egos who seek gratification in power even when its in a made up setting. Im a member of the 501st and Ive seen some jacked up stuff. Same sort of nonsense happend in the SCA, STARFLEET and the KLINGON fan clubs. It seems any time you combine fans with a heirarchal organization and fictional ranks you are begging for trouble. Its not the 501st, its an ugly truth of fandom...I think my new slogan will be.."I troop alone"...lol
Dont get me wrong I have some great friends within all these groups but a lot of the time the little power junkies tend to pee in the pool...

Sure, I'm not arguing that. I was CO of the Florida Garrison for over two years and I had to deal with knuckleheads. But I've even seen the same here on the RPF. Plenty of ego strutting goes on around here, too. I don't think it's the ugly truth of fandom. It's the ugly truth about people in general. Overall, I think the 501st has done a pretty good job of keep the knuckleheads at bay.

I don't know what a budget MR helmet is, actually. I once bought a "Canadian" helmet kit. Before I built it, I tried on a friend's finished helmet. Or rather, I tried to try it on. I couldn't get it past my nose.

I'm assuming Huzz is from overseas. The budget MR helmet is the UK exclusive from Play.com or some such site. The helmet looks outstanding for the money. Much better than the FX, or anything Don Post.

Skaught, here is the helmet I'm referring to:

Overseas? Is my accent that bad? Actually, I'm from Canada. I'm there right now! LOL!

Defstartrooper - what price do those Troopermaster suits run for? ANd do you know how I could contact that chap on mepd.net?

LOL...No, I just assumed since you were after that helmet, you would be in Europe. The shipping, at least to the states, is kinda prohibitive for that helmet. The shipping is just about the cost of the helmet.

I'm sorry I confused you guys! I should've used the right name for the MR UK Exclusive helmet from the get-go I suppose.

Yes, the shipping to Canada and the US for that helmet is almost as much as the helmet itself. And there is no North American retailer. But - my wife's company has an office in Aberdeen in the UK. Occasionally folks from that office come to town on business for a few days. So perhaps I may be able to get one of those "blokes" or "birds" to bring one over with him or her so I could avoid the shipping charges.

I'm sure all are aware of this, but "accurate" helmets has to be put on sideways... :)

..I don't think Rubies looks that bad in the pic...but like the rubies Vader it probably wont look as good in person...the reaction from the public would probably be " ...oh look , a guy in a stormtrooper suit" where as if you had some better armor ( AP/RTFX etc..)the reaction would be " HOLY CRAP! A STORMTROOPER!!!" :) :)

The latter is the reaction I get in my FX when I go out in public. ;)

Thanks Scott.

I'm really coming to the conclusion that FX armor ($300 without a helmet) combined with the new budget UK exclusive Master Replicas stormtrooper lid ($200 delivered) would make a very nice stormtrooper costume - at a very nice price too - about $500.

That's about half the Rubies price. I expect the quality of my combo would be much higher than Rubies. And while the FX armor may have some inaccuracies, I think they are acceptable. On the helmet, I can't conceive that any Rubies helmet will be in the same league as the Master Replicas budget UK helmet, either on quality or acuracy.

Here's what I spent on my FX based costume:

$450 for armor (including helmet), shipped
$80 on boots
$70 on Under Armour undersuit top & bottom
$15 on gloves

Total $615, plus assembly material. Blaster is a must, of course.

Thanks Scott! Got any pics I could see?

I'm 6'1 and 175 pounds. I'm lead to believe the FX suit would fit me nicely. Would you agree?

Thanks again!
