Rubies Stormtrooper Blaster (catalog #30557)

Considering I'm planning to put together an AT-DP Driver costume, this blaster should fit nicely with it once it's painted. Maybe not a great piece but with some paint and touch-ups it should be just fine. I think I might just have to pick up one of these. Wish they were in stores, though. (And it's too bad that the blaster doesn't have any sound effects... Would have been fun.)

And I'm jealous of you, Tan Djarka, for finding the Ezra lightsaber. I've been trying to find one myself but none of the Halloween stores have any-- not Spirit and not a year-round store, either. :p

Just got it today. Gotta' say, a bit of buyers remorse but I think I may try my hand at salvaging it...

I got mine today. No need to post pictures as others beat me to it. It sure does feel flimsy, but with some mods I can make it more sturdy. Even just a coat of black paint will make this thing look pretty darn good. The paint job as is, is really really lousy. Not that I expected much from a Rubies product, but this one is pretty sad, even for them. But I think it will still make for a really cheap, quick, and fun build for a halfway decent trooping prop that will look the part. I've seen people here do AMAZING things with simple or crappy parts. A little work and love can make for some of the coolest props. It's one of the reasons I keep coming back to this forum again and again.

Yes, but it looks less like an E-11 then any other toy previously IMHO. They made it in sections so it can fit in this tiny box. So the stock when folded only goes halfway along the barrel.

Okay, I just got my Rubies in (I never thought I would say that LOL). Here it is compared to a Doopydoos resin and a Doopydoos Hasbro conversion. I put rulers along the edge so you can see where lens distortion play a factor. From the butt end of the blaster (not including the D-ring) to the muzzle end (not including the folded stock), the resin is 18 7/8", the Hasbro is 17 3/4" and the Rubies is 17".

Good to see some decent comparison shots guys thanks :)

I think this thing has to be taken for what it is, a fun little gun that once painted could be useful for trooping as its clearly not real and so lightweight, its also something that you could let a kid play with still after mods because you don't want them touching you expensive replicas now... and that confuses their tiny minds.

thanks to Robert for this pic, i want to show how easy it would be to make this better (click pic to enlarge)

three cuts, I think you could add 3/4 of an inch to the back and 1/2 an inch to the front with little trouble. maybe do something to the grip and its nearly the right size.
cut down the t-track and add a couple more details and its getting much closer still.
much more and you might as well buy a doopys.

Well got mine today. Boy this thing is gonna take a lot of work. The seams are horrendous, its too small and its LIGHT I think the box it came in is heaver LOL. But hey they don't make these with us in mind. I'm not going to mod it but cleaning it up (and weighing it up) and putting lenses in the scope will be time consuming. I don't think making it longer will do much good the diameter is wrong. Bottom line, its good for a kid. I don't think the 501st will accept this. To be honest I wont buy another one.

Still a good trooping option. For a display, yes, I'd consider it a half-model before the ANH and describe it that way... E-11X, a version pushed into production to meet supply demands. ;)

Most fans don't notice the lack of a magazine and counter when looking at the Hasbro, and this has both of those so that's an improvement right there. Might get a second and try to file down the T-tracks so they look straighter.

Not a bad likeness - I agree about the difference, never handling a sterling, this does seem "right." Is that "T-Track" section solid plastic? I'm sitting here with the sudden urge to sand down those curvy grips

This is what the innards look like. As you can see, the top T-track is partially hollow, but could be easily filled.

I could definitely see some potential for cutting it apart and using some of the detail bits - handle, ammo feed, counter box, scope, end cap (maybe) on a pipe build. It wouldn't be as accurate as using resin bits, of course, but would be much cheaper and perfect for Halloween and stuff like that.

Being really new to this stuff (hello!) I may pick one up just to try cleaning it up a little bit and painting it, just to see what I can come up with. Thanks for the reviews, they've been very informative.

I went to a local Halloween outlet store... they had 2 e-11s and a couple of the clone blasters.... at 50% off. The e-11 was pretty cheap and I didn't pick one up. But for $9 I picked up the clone blaster which has sound. As well its not the right size, but I currently don't have a blaster for my clone trooper armor so I figured I could paint it up and for $9 bucks its worth it. Anyway, I would not pay the full price for the e-11. This is my own opinion but I would probably still take a painted Hasbro over it any day just because of the sound and lights. Throw a doopy doo kit on the Hasbro and its lightyears better for trooping than the rubies.

But this is just my thoughts

I plan on just unscrewing the halves, filling it in with epoxy puttee where it's really fragile (the trigger guard, trigger) and adding sections of PVC pipe into the main body and handle to make it more sturdy. I think even as is with just a coat of black paint it STILL looks better than a hasbro, even with a kit added. But to each their own.

Have you been able to work on the Rubies blaster yet? I am curious what mods you have done as I have one coming in too.

Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to yet, though I've seen a few modded ones on ebay that look pretty impressive for a toy. It should make for a fun afternoon project

I agree, a good afternoon project. I have one coming, and an older one not a Rubies, so might combine the two.
