Round2 Acquires Star Wars License

Well, it's not exactly in Bandai territory. The new bits look like one-parters, so don't model all the detail with gaps, etc. But the sidewalls are a vast improvement over the original MPC Falcon kit. Amusing to see they replicated a visible screwhead on a rear sidewall piece.

They don't show the engine quarter deck - that was the other area that was way out to lunch in the original. Looks like the panel lines in the docking rings are painted on.

But it does look like a reasonable choice for people who don't want to spend the cash on Bandai and who aren't that fussed about mould sharpness and screen fidelity. If they think there's a market for this, that's great!

On the other hand, while the TIE fighter is a weird random scale, it looks excellent detail-wise. Pretty cool.

The TIE is intended to be 1/32.

Edit: What the heck is that on top of mandibles on the inside and front? :D I guess it is just a super exaggerated version of what is there on the 'real' thing.

1/32 is a very common scale, especially for aircraft kits. This TIE looks to be the perfect size regardless of scale.

Sure, but this is a fantasy kit, not a plane. And it means the TIE doesn't match their X-wings, right? I suppose maybe it'll match the Darth Vader TIE.

You could say the same about Bandai's 1/72 kits, also a common aircraft scale. MPC's previous kits were each a different "random" scale, what would you have them do make the new TIE 1/43? I've been wanting all the fighters in a common (larger than 1/72) scale for so long, and I'll finally get then if R2 eventually retools all of them. I'd like to display them with same scaled aircraft for size comparison.

Yeah, well that's the thing. Bandai have been pretty great about making most of their kits to a relatively small consistent set of scales. Round Two have inherited all the box scale nonsense from their legacy products, which puts them in a different position...

Kids should all be able to re-enact this legendary Joe Johnston moment, with similarly scaled model craft! :)

For what it is worth: The TIE is the first in a proposed lineup of 1/32 Star Wars kits from Round2.

So, if we live long enough, you will be able to recreate the Joe Johnston photo with similar sized kits! :)

If R2 makes kits of the Cantwell ships then sure :) But for the screen versions I just want then in a constant scale, not too big or too small, that can display next to same scale real world craft. Fingers crossed R2 does the whole line, and if so then at least the B-wing will be studio scale.

Looks great, I’d preferred it if they would have shown the Falcon & it’s updates unpainted, hard to appreciate the work done

TIE looks fantastic

Klingon Battlecruiser looks epic

Is there any speculation on the price of the TIE? I'm certain it will be a great seller, but price is always a factor. Not that it needs it, but I wonder if there would be a base with it, perhaps to display it other than sitting flat on the bottom of the panels.

I'm sorry, I was expecting a radical difference. A couple years ago during the pandemic lock down I went to town on my old MPC Falcon fixing it up. This new kit doesn't look much better than what I achieved IMHO. But it IS a great alternative to the Bandai if you don't already own one!

Definitely peaked my interest. I'm hoping they also come out with a revised Snowspeeder in 1/32, a Y-Wing in 1/48 (but preferably 1/32), a TIE Interceptor, and a TIE Bomber. A better Bike Scout model would be very cool as well.

Never has a TIE been done in 1/32. I'm assuming that if it sells well, that Jamie will be able to get X-wings in 1/32 as well. It may not fit on everyone's shelf, but it would be a shame if the TIE didn't have an adversary to go with it.

With Revell doing Mando's new ride, perhaps Round 2 shouldn't get into a p!ssing match with them since they seem to be trying to win the hearts of SW modellers as well. They have to do something that Revell hasn't thought of yet.
