Round2 Acquires Star Wars License

Apparently there was a pre-release Razor Crest build party at Celebration this year:

Hat tip to Andro at the Starship Modeler forum

Edit:

Just saw this reply from Round2:

The Razor Crest is about to go into production and should be on the market by the end of summer.

Looking at those pictures, it has a smooth, glossy surface and and the usual Round2 mould quality, with tons of gaps and fitting issues.

I can’t tell how different it is from the Revell if at all…
Well, the Round2 RC doesn't have the internals BUT it should have a smooth finish contrary to Revell's horribly wrinkled finish and the exhaust engines are pre-drilled to allow for lighting (and I missed this a LOT when I built my Revell RC. ...)

Having built a few of their newer Trek kits, I find the fits to be quite good. The k’tinga needed nearly no filler. At least mine did not.The shuttle Galileo also has great fit. I have hopes for their SW offerings and just hope for good subjects at decent size.

I don't remember major any issues with the new tooled Space 1999 kits.

In fact most parts including the cages fit good enough to hold themselves in place without gluing which helped for painting it in stages, but not getting paint on the glue joints

I was actually surprised with the two 1/72 Hawks and the current 1/72 Eagle currently under construction...friction fit was pretty good (though nowhere near Bandai level). The only reason I used Tamiya liquid cement was to ensure a permanent joint during final assembly.

It's happening!

Round2 is going to produce a studio scale TIE fighter (1/32). Just an announcement so far.

Also a Havoc Marauder from Bad Batch?

They are also doing a 1/350 Kronos One, version of the K'T'inga from Star Trek VI.

And they have the license for UFO.

Choppy video here at about 10:35 mark:

Now I have confused myself. I thought studio scale for Star Wars fighters was 1/24, not 1/32?
I wondered about that too. Studio scale is 1/24, I assume they meant that and not 1/32. I'd prefer 1/32 for all of the fighters, I've wanted that for 45 years and R2 may be the last shot we get to have it.

star-art aka Charles Adams, gave us the full text over at Starhip Modeler:

"Star Wars A New Hope STUDIO SERIES 1:32 TIE FIGHTER
Glue-Together Model Kit
*Authentic details present in the studio miniatures
*Full cockpit including pilot figure
*Clear parts for lighting
*1st in a series of screen-accurate 1/32 STAR WARS fighter model kits from AMT!"

So, apparently, they are doing a little marketing double-speak.

1/32 is definitely a winner in my book.

An accurately shaped 1/32 X-Wing would be really cool, but a 1/32 Y-Wing would be even more impressive.

Hoping they make enough from the Tie Fighter to greenlight the others

I kind of prefer 1/32 scale to 1/24 scale

It make a nice fit with other 1/32 aircraft
