hey guys

now i know that the episode 3 stunt lightsabers were made differently. i also heard that they were attached differently and that there were adaptors on the blades themselves to attach to the hilt. does anyone know how this was done. also does anyone have pics

Resin stunts were only used as belt hangers I believe. The Obi-wan stunt has enough room for the blade to fit inside it, the blades werent super thick.

Resin and rubber (rubber was only used in Ep3 I believe) stunts were also used for duelling. There have been a number of high value screenused resin stunts sold through PIH over the past number of years.

Off the top of my head I remember a Qui-Gon,Mace AOTC,Maul and an Anakin battle arena saber. Also there may have been a Dooku ROTS and I have also seen a Windu ROTS stunt. All with rods for duelling.

I seem to recall reading or hearing somewhere that the resin hilts on the stunt sabers were molded around the blades; i.e., the blades were inserted into the molds before the resin was poured/injected, effectively holding them in place once the resin cured. They had no need for removable blades, since they were able to manufacture as many of each type (hilt with and hilt without blade) as they needed for each actor/stuntperson, and simply switched them out as necessary.

Also, in case you don't know this already, the stunt sabers were not only smaller in diameter than the "hero" props, but the Anakin and Obi-Wan sabers didn't have activator boxes attached to them (as you can see in the posted photos). This was done to make it easier for the actors to handle them during filming.

ya maybe but wut about those ani stunts with the s curve tops. also does anyone know anything about that bladed mace stunt that was on yourprops that was from episode 3 and i think it had a green blade with an extra with it

To my knowledge, although I may be wrong, those Anakin stunts are rubber stunts with rubber chrome paint finish. The Windu saber you are referring to was a chromed resin stunt used in the Windu/Sidious duel in ROTS.

I found this picture, but I'm not sure where.

Hayden Christensen has really small hands. They made his stunt hilts with an indent just below the rabbit ears where his thumb and forefinger would grip the hilt.

His small handage is the cause of the small dimensions and small grips on the Ani AOTC Hilt. If you watch the first Episode III teaser you can see his tiny baby hands when Vader's operation table rises up for the first time.

To my knowledge, although I may be wrong, those Anakin stunts are rubber stunts with rubber chrome paint finish.
On the "extras" dvd for ROTS, they showed one of these and stated they had discovered a method for chrome-plating rubber (plated, not painted) and that several props were made from rubber to lessen the likelihood of any actors or stuntpeople getting injured by metal or resin props during filming.

I spoke with the man who developed the rubber chrome paint. It was developed to flex with the rubber stunts without flaking and breaking. The rubber stunts had the rabbit ears and control box and inner graflex emitter separately cast and attached to the saber.
