Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Pre-release)

I hope this and any other "Height of the Empire" movie(s), leave(s) out anything to do with the Jedi and the Force. I think it is a great opportunity to focus on non Force users in the SW universe. Maybe get some info on the goings-on in the galaxy since the fall of the Republic but if we're to believe the Jedi and the Force were all forgotten about, it would be good to actually see that onscreen. Minus perhaps the phrase, "May the Force be with you" but it seems more like a "good luck" charm used by the Rebellion more than anything else.

The main reason we've not seen anything like a trailer is because there is not much completed at the moment. The schedule to finishing this was always going to be very tight but it looks like this is going to go the line. Disney was very relieved to be able to bump EP VIII to Xmas next year so they could allow LF to concentrate on R1 as ILMs under a hell of alot of pressure to get a slew of VFX heavy films done, and that immense workload is going to be constant for the very foreseeable future. I am sure they will do it and can't wait to see some old familiar faces and vehicles again but I'm also fairly desperate to see some footage to confirm this.

I agree! The SW universe is SO VAST and AMAZING! Let's explore other areas of the galaxy, tell more new and exciting stories and focus on others who had a significant impact on the course of SW related events. :)

I think they've said the Jedi will not play a role in R1 (for obvious reasons), though I imagine the Force might be showcased if the Vader rumors are true. I look forward to seeing where these anthology movies take us. I hope they'll explore more obscure stories with new characters against the backdrop of a space epic, which is why I am very uninterested in all this talk of movies needlessly rehashing characters we already know: (sadly confirmed) young Han Solo, middle-aged Obi-wan, young Yoda, Boba Fett etc. The GFFA is huge with near infinite possibilities. Take advantage of that!

I'm not against a young Han Solo series. I don't think most of are interested in a 10 or 15 year old HS - you can mention enough of his youth through other characters and one liners. I would really enjoy seeing a 24-28 year old HS and following his path to ANH. How exactly did he and Lando (now that the EU is dead) meet, why did he owe Jabba money, how and why did he cross Boba Fett and of course how did he get the Falcon. Imagine the storytelling, the creatures, planets, worlds and dangers that can be had with this one character. :)

Another is a older (from PT) / younger (before OT) Obi-Wan. I've always wondered why Uncle Owen considered Obi Wan to be a crazy old man and tells Luke to "Forget it". We didn't get the sense of any animosity at the end of the EP III. It would be an interesting story. :)

Eh, I guess. I just took it that Owen wanted to "scare" Luke from having any interaction with that weird old man out in the desert. Lol!

I also think that by ANH Luke is like Owen's son. So that's a big difference between ROTS when he's all for taking Luke in, and then when the time comes that he realizes Luke might actually go follow Obi Wan. He's just trying to protect Luke. I don't think that he doesn't like Obi Wan, but he knows what happened to Anakin.

i really like the idea of no jedi in the film. it gives vader a much more invincible feel.kinda like michael voorhees lol i know allot of people are really excited for more star wars movies. make no mistake i loved hearing they were making a sequel trilogy, i loved TFA. i hope the 2 other movies will be good. but i fear disney pumping these things out like they are with the marvel movies... some of them come out great and others pure garbage... look how hyped age of ultron was... i came out wicked disappointed, cap 2... again thor and hulk i didnt even bother to go see. antman... yeah... make no mistake disney has made some AMAZING marvel films!! iron man 1 was awesome! avengers i felt the same way.

i fear disney will lose their dedication to the fans and just start making movies to sell more toys... before everyone says " no no, they are keeping the fans in mind" BUT this is exactly whats happening in marvel right now. rumor is the infinity movie is going to have 60 something characters... how the heck is that going to work? why am i mentioning this? because disney is trying to do everything they can to pump these toys out, 60 super heros in the movies thats 60 more different figures on the shelfs.

i dont need to see a young han solo, obi wan has been in a hut for 19 years dont change that, and young yoda?! :( boba fett dont even get me started...

after all this late night babble, I'm excited for rogue one, but doing more stories about skywalker and friends... its just gotta end

I agree. It's a double edged sword. While I'm excited for more movies for the time being, I have no doubt Disney is going to milk the SW teat until we're sick and tired of it and nothing is left but a husk. Some things should eventually be allowed to gracefully fade into cinematic history but the almighty dollar is increasingly preventing that from happening. Hollywood is obsessed with reboots and sequels these days.

I don't get any paternal vibe from Owen in regards to Luke. He feels less like family and more like a ward. I think Owen cares for Luke but not as the son he never had. And the new comics are definitely establishing a very adversarial relationship between Owen and Ben.

Well, we should consider how well Disney has managed their own brand for nearly 70 years.

True though that does run a pretty broad gamut. I'm fine with this current sequel trilogy happening but I just don't think I'm terribly keen on seeing an Episode XXV starring Luke's great, great, great grandchildren.

I didn't / don't get that sense either. In my "vision" of the story, "something" happened between Owen and Ben that created animosity or differing of opinion. I think Owen knew Ben would be near by in the event of some "Force" related happening or event. The look Owen gives Beru during dinner is very telling that something created this air of resentment. It would be fun to see what happened. :)

Bryancd I totally get what you and sofaking are saying. In the movie Owen only has like 10 lines. The comics are completely changing all of the things that we thought we knew and unfortunately the vast majority of people that are going to see the movies will never read them. I personally have always felt (from just ANH perspective) that Owen loved Luke but was always looking over his shoulder for somebody to come and get him like Ben or Vader. If he didn't love Luke there is no way he would take the risk of raising him.

Also a little off topic but if you look at it from a societal stand point. If he and Beru couldn't have children she also might have just told his ass this is going to happen. i.e.. how my wife does me all the time.
