Rocketeer Rocket Pack from found parts

I love Home Depot. Unless I need something fixed around the house and need advice. :lol

For the cones on top, I'd suggest blue painters tape around the steel cones to protect them. Then get several cans of expanding foam. Build a cardboard disc just inside the tubes, squirt the foam inside and let it set up. Once dry, sand down the foam to a basic shape. You can bondo on top of it to smooth it out.

Or just use some insulation foam. That might save you a step. I just don't know how much it costs and the expanding stuff is less than $5 a can, if I remember correctly.

Looking forward to your progress.

Great advice!
I'll offer another possibility. Cut the top 6 inches off a plastic 2 liter soda bottle. Cut the threaded opening off. Add some Sculpy or other modelling build up medium and shape into the cone. Once it's all dry--primer and paint.

That's a good suggestion. There are two builds of rocketpacks online (not on this site) and one.used coke bottles. Another suggestion is crab floats. They are more sturdy and easier to attach items too.

Another suggestion is to scratch build. A member here named hikz I believed made an amazing rocketpack.

I have a couple of rocket pack projects in the works, using mostly found parts. I'm eager to see your progress.

If you get a chance to look, garage sales and thrift stores like Goodwill often have dirt cheap lamps with conical sections made of hollow brass or steel. The parts nest together around a threaded inner rod. These make very nice conical tips (for aerodynamics) or exhaust nozzles. Also, they can sometimes cost less than the most humble part you can get at a home improvement store. I lucked onto a couple of matching lamps at a Goodwill that yielded enough cones for at least two packs.

Slightly off topic- So Howard Hughes (fictionally) invented the Rocketeer pack. Howard Hughes also (actually) invented the flush rivet.....

Why no flush rivets on the rocket pack?

At most dollar stores you can find 3 liter plastic bottles of soda you can use for the nosecones. I also use modified drinking bottles that look like tiny sparklets bottles for the rocket engines.

Holy cow you guys are awesome!!! Thanks for all the helpful info
