The short answer is that it's a faux metal. In this case bronze.

The long answer is that I mix powdered bronze into the resin and then buff the surface to remove the outer layer of resin, leaving only the polished bronze. Gives you the look of real metal at a fraction of the price.

Is this a different helmet than the Acme Designs model? I've been trying to get one of those again after having one back in 2004, but no one seems to be replying to my inquiries.

Now that the RPF has decided to be recaster friendly I'm no longer offering kits.

if it is about the ep VII trooper helmet you might want to go back and read later in the thread and possably pm to clarify you might be getting huffy for no reason if not then huff away just trying to help please don't be mad

I am probably totally wrong and would not care at all except I would have able to afford a kit but I know I will not be able to afford the completed helmet and if a misunderstanding messed me out of a cool prop im not happy at all.
it might be about something else as well or it could all be fiendish treachery.

I was gonna buy the trooper helmet till OZ said it was a recast then I was looking at the rocketeer helmet and poof no kits . so It personally effected me or I would have kept my trap completely shut on the subject !

I don't see anything wrong with letting the rest of the community know about funny business so everyone can know who to avoid in the future but as everything in life that is a personal choice .

Allow me to clarify.

I was not referring specifically to that one post in the junkyard, and had in fact forgotten it was there. Rather it was the six other pricks I found out that were recasting my Stormtrooper helmet. And my Tali helmet. And my Maltese Falcon. And my Raiders Idol. And my Supernatural Colt. Etc, etc. Basically it started to seem like full on half the people buying kits were recasters.

All that was infuriating, but what really made me shut the door on kits is the fact that we builders no longer have the support of the RPF and that they are now happy to turn a blind eye to recasters. And that conclusion was only reached after speaking with several other builders here who have seen the same thing.

So no, I am not reacting to a single incident, but rather a pattern that has emerged over the past year.

Given that said, I still have a client that really wants a Rocketeer helmet. I was hoping I could earn a couple of bucks to assist him by finishing it off. I can't seem to find a kit anywhere, other than the crap on EBAY.

Your sculpt was the best I have seen.

If you are interested in selling a finished version let me know

hey small world ( er forum) I just bought a few things off vinman when I could not get a kit for the rocketeer helmet . the reason I have been waiting 25 years I guess there is always something shiny to distract me.

Oz, sorry about the PM, I sent it before I read all this. I meant a finished helmet. I almost bought the one in the JY (Ep 7) but that price for a finished version set off the alarm bells, even to a newb like me.

Sorry to hear about this mess, stealing your work is awful.
