robo3687's Iron Man Pep Files - SD War Machine links page 73

Thanks for the pointers! I'll try this helm. Do you think it's easier than the one included in robo's file on page 1? That's what I started. Today I've been working on a Mk VI chest piece. Someone had mentioned things like that are good practice before starting a helm. So far it seems like it's going well. Thanks!

its MUCH easier due to the fact that there is less detail, the back of the helm is a seperate part designed to either swing out or bungee with some elastic to close. if going with a hinge, you will want some magnets to keep it from poping open on you.the other hand, you can use a hinge system for the jaw to pop open and slide on, but that may be tough as there is little room in the neck space when you look at it from the bottom.

Hi again :confused
So i've been pepping away at robo's files, and so far it's going ok - just takes forever haha. But I'm starting to get anxious about the process of turning these seperate pep files into wearable armor. More specifically, I'm concerned about which pieces I should leave partially unassembled when i resin (if any) or if I should plan on resining and then cutting them apart. For example, I resined the "brace" piece (which i originally thought was just a stand of sorts to build the chest and back around), and obviously my head won't fit through there to put it on. And then of course the shoulders are two pieces. Should I just glue them together and resin/paint them or put them together after? I've also heard about the cod piece needing to be seperate pieces?

I'm also hoping someone could advise me or point me in the direction of a resource explaining a good way to costume-ize the armor. How and where do I attached straps/buckles/hinges/vests/belts/etc?

I know I should probably just focus on cutting and gluing at this point, but my mind keeps jumping ahead, and I'm starting to feel overwhelmed. SD Comic-con is right around the corner, and if I'm going to finish in time, I need to plan ahead a bit :confused

Thanks so much!

some people just line it all up and harden and then you can cuth them away with a dremmel. otherwise you can set up each part with the included braces and hope that you glued all parts perfectly along the lines and did likewise with the cuts.

Hey guys, I'm new at this, I've been reading your posts and watching your work and it is amazing, so I wanted to start making one myself. I read in several posts around here and the 405 and someone mentioned once something about a hinge system for the back of the Iron Man helmet that Dubean33 (405) did once... Anyone here has known something about that?...

Thx and congrats for the great job you all have done...

Hey everyone, I am nearing completion of my build and I was wondering if anyone figured out how to create these little bits between the arm pieces or the back of the leg pieces, Id like to make it as complete a suit as I can without too much of myself showing. Wondering if anyone used a fabric or some other technique to it...

Another way is strips of foam that you layer, and the way I want to do it is using those hosing tubes that they have at homedepot for under ground drains for gutters.

Starx on this forum explained a really good method.

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files (Mark IV/VI underway)

After months of dragging my heals and avoiding this back piece as long as I could...it's almost done. This is the toughest piece I have ever made! And still needs some work. Thanks for the months on headache, Robo :lol!

OK, I guess I'm following so many costume-building threads these days, I get confused as to which is which.:

What is that piece made of / what method did you use ??

This was made from Robo3687's Ironman Pepakura Files (found on the first page of this thread). I used Cardstock and Super Glue to assemble it. Then Fiberglassed the inside (Fiberglass Mat) and smoothed the outside with Joint Compound.
It's quite upsetting how quickly I typed that, compared to how long I worked on it:lol.

Joint compound? How does that hold up for you, and do you seal it with something?

See the chip on the shoulder bell? That was a fall from the top of my wooden basement step to the bottom. It still needs repair, but not too bad for Joint Compound.

This system is good for Drywaller and Cake Decorators:lol. It's all about putting on light, even layers then priming each layer to strengthen the Joint Compound. See my Thor Helmet Thread to see a Layer-By-Layer process. Finishing with several layers of enamel paint helps, too!
