Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

id say go with a few layers of resin on the heel and toes there, roughly 6 (i think) thick layers should suffice. i used 2 layers on the in side of a helm and tried to collapse it on 4 sides with a friend of mine so 4 to 6 layers should give a good solid bracing

when you do the boots, robo reccomends cutting or drilling a few small holes in the heel and toe pieces to kind of slosh the resin around in there.

actually i recommended filling the 'heel' and 'sole' parts entirely with resin....

but a combo between sloshing some resin around and filling with rubber might work...

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

since my suit isn't so smooth like on the movie....i just consider my suit a "battle damaged" version...

it just like my suit has been gunned down :love

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

If anyone fills the sole of the boots entirely with resin please do it in several stages. With that kind of thickness the heat from the chemical reaction poses a fire hazard.

The resin and silicone combo sounds like a winner to me since the silicone will allow some flexing.

good news.. the suit is done.. used all files robo posted.. ill post pics later after me & my mom finishes the velcro parts :D

here is some more updated pics from my build Robo, here is the sharkhead hd helmet resin applied already and here is the mark vi chest, have to finish 2 little pieces on it and then it gets the resin tomorrow...working on the left arm also at the moment....

i was going over some older posts in the thread and i can totally see you doing a big red S in the center of that chest peice and painting it blue and red lol

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

lol, you know that is an idea that I am tossing around Azurial, I have 2 of the mark vi chests done and I was seriously considering doing a crossover like the iron lantern but doing a Super Iron Man....so know everyone knows something that is up my sleeve for a future build ;) lol

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

That`s why i`m working on the Mark IV armor instead of VI.

Iron Man is Iron Man no Super Man.

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

well that is your opinion Nickslick, marvel comics and dc comics do crossovers from time to time, that's what makes it fun. Iron man has been crossed with green lantern to become the Iron Lantern, crossed with captain america of sorts to become the Iron Patriot or how bout the Iron Punisher. You are right that Iron man is not Superman, but that is what makes us different and have fun while your doing it. If everyone made the same thing over and over then it would be no fun anymore. So in the end I mean no disrespect about what I wrote, just voicing my opinion that is all :)

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

heres my theory for attaching the arms and legs to each other:

seal the elbow to the forearm, then make a copy of the rotator cylinder out of hard plastic. add that to the bicep where it goes best, and put a rivet through the plastic circle on the bicep and the pep'd circle from the forearm/elbow.

with the leg, i'd go to the fiberglass stage, then fill the rotator circles with resin, then cut them in half. they were pepped thicker than the elbow joints. attach the outside pieces to the thigh pieces inside the circles where it should connect, then fiberglass over it or somehow attach it permanently to the thigh. then just drill a hole through the center of each, then rivet them together.

for keeping the biceps from falling, i think the riveted joints would hold it up good enough, but i would put an elastic band connecting the two across the top of them, crossing behind the neck similar to a shoulder holster for a gun.

for the shoulder bells, i'd make a third bell to go inside the two in each, and rivet the bell joints to it. then i'd use another elastic strap , but also connecting it to the biceps with elastic so it will stay tight.

abs back and obliques, elastic.

legs, elastic attached to a thin belt or climbing harness fashioned from thin material (the kind of harness wrapped around each leg and the waist, then pulled tight.)

for the gauntlets tho, i'd make a pair of skintight gloves with stockings via a technique in a thread about concrete angels from doctor who, then cover them (while still on your hands) with red latex in layers till its thick enough to carve a little, then carve the rings to make it look segmented. then just put your outer armor gauntlet together with wire or guitar strings, and slip them on over the gloves. personally i'd fab up some custom palms with a hinge so you can keep it tight around the wrist without the need for keeping them from falling off. also, make the latex gloves high enough on the arm to hide it in the forearm armor.

not totally smooth but still shiny...ill post my pix when i finished putting damaged details

well that's the suit..damaged..haha

i wore it earlier this afternoon and all of the pieces wasn't scaled to my size. I'm 5'6.5 and all of the pieces was too big for me..

ill start working on the new pieces i've rescaled nextweek for halloween.

btw the suit wasn't fiberglassed due to small time i had, built it for 4 days only..haha..but the suit lasted the whole event. :D it was primered for 1st layer, then 2nd layer was primer+masonry bondo(we call it masiliang pampader here),sanded then painted. The helmet was pure bondo, and trust me it was heavy, using 2-3 layers of bondo then sanded, primered, painted. The leg pieces were bulky. and i wasn't able to make the abs piece.

well off with the suit. it's hanging @ my closet atm.

i'll post some more pics of it when i wake up. time to sleep and get some rest.. hope that helps

haha..

the next suit ill be doing will still be mk6 but will not be in a rush though..

this suit was made using robo's files, and pepping took me 4 days.

as you can see the legs are unscaled, raw.. i ddnt know how to scale the files that's why..:lol anyway, can anyone teach me how to make the leg parts smaller? and thinner? as you can see they need rescaling..

i will be using same files next week, 2weeks pepping then on with the resin. :angel

try to reduce the image in printer options...thats what i'm doing when printing the parts..with the exception of the chest and back pieces because i forgot to reduce the size :lol

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

Hey everyone... my first actual post here, but I've been silently following along while going to town with Robo's files.

At first I was going to fibreglass each part after constructing them, but changed my mind. I find its more motivating for me to get on to the next peice right after finishing constructing one.

Here's a pic of my work in progress so far. (Not being worn is the brace/collar, neck seal, left hand, left handplate, left fingers, and foot flaps, but I've got those pepped already.)

Just the left arm, right leg, hip pods, feet and spine to go!

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

Heej anyone working on the shoes? I'm wondering how to fiberglass it.. since from 2 of 3 parts (heel and nose) the inside is closed so I can't fiberglass it.. I think only resining the outside wont make it strong enough for my weight.. so I'm just wondering if anyone has resin and fiberglassed Robo's boots?

I myself thought some kind of rubber to fill the papermodel of the nose and heel with so it would form a massive soul..

I hope someone can give me an example of how I can work with it.

Thanks in advance

I had the idea to melt down some Croc's for the soles... I wonder if that would work... at least it would give a practical use to those damn things!!
