Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

yeah - its kinda hard to work with if you never have - mix too much hardener to too much filler and you get a brick in just a few seconds

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

yeah i used body filler (same as bondo). its harsh stuff, difficult to make smooth and without any mistakes + the hardening time is very small.

has the problem of inner elbows and inner kneews been solved? there is nothing there on the suit but i hear people made slides of plasic like on knigh armor which come together when the place is bent :)

btw I have started cutting out the iron man helmet (nearly done) I will post a pic of it once done but I mostly am on Crymod :)

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

i finished the important parts of the suit. well i finished the pepping in 4 days due to a rush for a cosplay con this aug 14...

didn't have time to resin but i'll post the pics of the suit once im done painting them. i used a rather rush method due to small little time.

one thing i can say though are the legs, very bulky compared to the movie suit. maybe i need to rescale them the next time i have time to resin them. anyway wish me luck :) ill post pics once im done

hehehe....what event "pare"?....where and what time?..i'm just here in laguna :love but still i'm not done pepping the legs and boots...and i'm on the process of hardening, smoothening and painting my helmet, gloves(repulsor),chest and back pieces and the brace...:lol

where can i buy the resin thing :confused cuz i don't have a damn idea where to buy it :confused

i'd already used other body filler....actually wood filler (glazing putty) :)
its hard to dry out (i took about 5-9 hours)...but the texture and the outcome is great.:love

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

cyberzone cosplay :) based on what i know its supposed to be simultaneous across all SM Malls. Well my dad works in makati, his officemate's near a plastic factory in Taguig, they sell resin, not yet premixed, sold in sacks. A sack is worth 2,500 pesos which comes together with a hardener.

What method did you use on your pep? I used bondo+10 layers of varnish on my helmet. Primered it then spray painted it. Well it looked nice mostly :)..

For the armor i used mason filler masilia, mixed with the primer then spread it evenly over the pep, and wahla, not as hard as resin but will do. :)

How bout you dude what event? I'm guessing its cyberzone also right? :love

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

hey guys. just finished pepping the fingers. what is everyone planning on doing with these?
are you all still going through the fiberglassing and bodyfilling process or just resining and painting? really could do with hearing some ideas. also do you intend on keeping them as seperate pieces? im thinking of attaching them permanently to a pair of gloves.
ive also considered the prospect of adding the hinges that were used on the movie gloves (anyone care to post the link of the iron man movie suit tour which explains what i mean).

all suggestions would be very welcome.

I'm nowhere close to doing the fingers (just starting to put the pep pieces together for the helmet, my very first IM piece), but I plan to attach them to a light glove, if I can find something appropriate to use. Hadn't considered NOT FG'ing them, but that might not be a bad idea - as long as the parts are strong enough without FG (resin only) to stand up to filling/smoothing, which WILL be required, I'm thinking. May have to try with a fingertip or something.

im doing one suit for chairty on a small comission atm and one for myself for apperances at my local comic shops, hospitals and such, but i've perfected my resin/filler method so im doing that right away. all you gotta do is mis about half a can of filler (the bigger cans) to about a full can of resingive a good mix, pour out a little bit, use enough of the filler hardener to make it a nice dull red and goto work - make sure you dont use too much filler mix as it will require more hardener and shorten your working time.

btw thanks guys for your help on that matter ^_^

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

currently working on my arc reactor again :love

my old reactor was unfortunately explode...yeah...EXPLODE....

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

Heej anyone working on the shoes? I'm wondering how to fiberglass it.. since from 2 of 3 parts (heel and nose) the inside is closed so I can't fiberglass it.. I think only resining the outside wont make it strong enough for my weight.. so I'm just wondering if anyone has resin and fiberglassed Robo's boots?

I myself thought some kind of rubber to fill the papermodel of the nose and heel with so it would form a massive soul..

I hope someone can give me an example of how I can work with it.

Thanks in advance

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

when you do the boots, robo reccomends cutting or drilling a few small holes in the heel and toe pieces to kind of slosh the resin around in there.

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

Hey guys i think im able to show my teams progress using this link

fiberglassing | Facebook

Hope it works. If it doesnt i will change the settings of the photo album and repost the link. Feedback will be much appreciated.

Can anyone give a detailed list on how they intend on attaching all the parts when finished? I have no idea how we're going to stop the bisep from falling down the arm while it is being worn. Or how the chest plate will be attached. The only option i can really come up with is neodinium magnets everywhere. Also are you all attaching the bisep to the forearm permanently with rivets? How will you be attaching the shoulder bells?

An idea i have come up with too is to mount rubber on the edges which touch other parts to minimise paint rub. For example where the edge of the chest plate meets the abs area there will be constant friction during movement. Maybe foam or rubber just round the edges of the chest piece to minimise friction and paint scratching.

Wheres Robo gone too? Havent heard from him in a while. Kinda miss the dude.

Wow i have so many question. I must be in a very inquisitive mood.

All replies will be appreciated.

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

The way I have my clonetrooper armor worn is either by nylon straps or heavy duty elastics with industrial snaps. My chest and back are attached at the top of the shoulders with straps and snaps together. Then in the center of each chest and back straps, I snap my left and right shoulder bells respectively. From the shoulder bells, I snap on my biceps with elastics. The elbow armor pretty much stays in place with my elastic straps on the other side. For the ab plate, you can rig a suspender type of strapping system to hold it in place. You can also attach your cod piece to the ab armor from inside with straps and snaps on the inside to hide them underneath the cod and ab armor. The thighs can be attached with straps and snaps from the cod down to the top of the thighs. Same method goes with the shin and calves, from the bottom of the thighs the straps will attach to the top of the shins and calves.

You will probably have to attach the thighs and shins together first then put them on like pant legs since it will be quite difficult to attach them together separately once you're in them. You don't have to do this verbatim but I hope this gives you an idea on how to go about putting the armor on.

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

my suit isn't smooth...but it's ok...it's still shiny...

the bondo (glazing putty) stuff doesn't dry quickly...so i need to leave it with minor gliches...hehehe

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

you can use wet/dry sand paper to smooth it out or a power sander (like im doing) to get it down smooth, add a new layer if need be then repeat till it is smooth - thats one of the reasons i started mixing my resin and body filler - you get it right the first time lol

Thanks I hope it will hold my weigth then, not that I am heavy it just seems rather thin..

might try out filling the toe and heel with silicone or some other rubberlike plastic, will let you know how it'll go first going to pep all the other parts
