Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

binder clips are waste of money. I used magic tape and worked well.

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

i used paper tapes (the ones usually seen on the top of a receipt booklet)...glue stick/gun...and staples to put up the pieces together...then i use car sealant (yeah i don't know if thats correct) to make my suit hard enough and lightweight... :lol

can you reuse magic tape forever? nope. :D

besides. 3 bucks for ONE HUNDRED micro binder clips wont put you in a hole.

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

any one using rondo(resin/filler mix) on there files?

i used some over top of my bondo job and its looking really sleek. i'll get pics later once it sets up and im done with the back and brace peices.

sorry im not using all of your parts robo

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

I've used Styrospray 1000 for my Galactic Marine chest and back armor styrofoam (florist's styrofoam) sculpts and it worked fine. It left a nice smooth plastic coating that hardens up to 65 shore. I used about 3 layers to give it enough strength. I haven't tried using it on Pep files though so this would be my first time when I finish assembling my IM helmet.

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

so hers a pic of my chest - i didnt use enough hardener so i think its going to take a while... i just maybe 2 pea sized drops in one of those pound tubs of ham from the supermarket

any one have any ideas on how long it'll take to harden up? its equal parts fiberglass resin and body filler.

by looking at how gray it is, and using "2 pea sized drops" your rondo is screwed.

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

its a slight pinkish color that my camera couldnt pick up.

if need be, you think i could spread on a tube of hardener on there?

how much MEK-P did you put in there? you should have at least .5cc of MEK-P per 1oz. of resin.

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

aside from that though, i just finished the thigh pep. why'd everyone say it was so difficult again? i dont get it.

not 100 percent sure, but i found a solution - i read that i can mix a new batch and put a bit more hardener on it - then go over the wet coat (if its still wet by tomorrow) and it will harden up on both layers - was planning to do multiple coats any ways

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

yeah beware though the new batch will dry up really fast, I had the same troubles when I started. I didn't use enough hardener. tried letting it hard for 48h but that didn't work. also blowing it with a hairdryer didn't work. last and best solution was a new batch with more hardener. although I had to aply the new batch rather fast.

but after making a few batches you'll get the hang of the resin/hardener ratio. ;)

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - hip pod and foot flap now available

well it is setting up, just taking its sweet time - most of the base coating is solid underneath so i cant go back and scrape it off, but i have a few more chest peices peped up so if i have to scrap it not a huge deal - first time working with res/filler mix

also - has any one thought about using the minigun i designed? if so i would really love to see how it came out - im going to slap one together once i get most of my commission job done

EDIT:

good news! i saved the chest plate from disaster with an extra coat of resin/filler mix with extra hardener (about a 1/4 of the tube)

i dont wanna say anything bad but I have done enough work with pepakura and i can honestly say that the only thing u need to put the whole model together is PVA glue and a small brush.

then u need a piece of cloth, resin, another bigger brush and scissors. THATS ALL! :D

I made a whole nanosuit 2 helmet from paper to the final touch stage and u dont need anything but pva glue to stick paper together :)

nah...i prefer to use my stuff cuz it's inexpensive...i use staples then hot glue for it not to torn apart when i suit it up...:love

and besides..as long as the outcome is good..ill stick to what method i'm doing...:cool
