Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - neck seal!

I brush resin on the outside and then slush cast Smooth On Smooth Cast 300. Works like a charm. Is non toxic and you can use it indoors. Great stuff. It is how I hardened my helmet.. you can also build up any desired thickness with it.

Im from the uk. Do you know what that product is over here..?

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - neck seal!

I am thinking of using talc as a filler for a resin mud mixture to fill in corners and edges, then fiberglass matting with resin maybe 2-3 layers.

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - neck seal!

My arms and legs are really skinny but long. I wish to add a small amount of bulk to them but not as much as the current arm and leg files are. Are these going to look disproportionate on me? Im pretty much the same height and build as iron man, are the standard sizes of these files going to look to big on me? I realise its late for me to be asking this but i intend on selling it anyway when its finished.

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - neck seal!

Anyone ever slush cast with regular fiberglass resin. It seems like it might be to thick and would take way to long to coat the interior. A friend recommended adding acetone to the resin mix to thin it out but i dont know what the end result would be. Would acetone affect the resins strength, set time, finish, temperature, toxicity, etc?

NO, you don't want to "puddle" polyurethane resin 'cause the resin heats up when it's drying, and when it get too hot the resin will just get brittle. and also possibly setting your Pep on fire (and this is true!!). Go find a fiberglass supply store, and look for a low viscosity resin, and a 30% MEK-P.

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - neck seal!

Just come back from a very frustrating fiberglassing session. nearly finished fiberglassing the chest piece. Have decided fiberglassing is way to stressful. Can any one advise for or against skipping fiberglassing for the rest of the pieces? I wish to reinforce with ressin inside and out side instead. I dont wana cut corners and if theis is extremely undavisable please let me know ASAP.

your mat is probably too thick. Get some surface veil or "firberglass tissue" and it should solve your problems.

or use some chopped strands instead of talc. They're usually $5 a pound.

Smooth Cast resins are NOT non-toxic before they cure, and release harmful vapors both before mixing and while curing. The entire Smooth Cast series (and polyurethane resins in general) contain isocyanates, which are horrific respiratory system irritants and aren't any good for your eyes and skin either.

I'm not sure who gave you this information, but it is completely and totally wrong. Exposure over time to isocyanates WILL cause you harm. Use the resins outside with plenty of ventilation and preferably a respirator.

Material Safety Data Sheet for Smooth Cast 300 Series

Just because it doesn't smell like "harmful chemicals" doesn't mean it's not hurting you.

would work. My idea is similar. put the jaw on a drawer slider and fasten it closed with a magnet. so the chin part slides out enough to squeeze your head in.
Question for the sharkhead helmet people:
Im pepping the mk v version of his helmet. is it the same as the other one with a different faceplate?

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - neck seal!

Is it just me or does it appear as Robo has lost significant interest in working on these pep files?

Everytime I have checked back, it seems more people are ranting about uimpractical ideas for souping up their builds, and construction help.

There are only a few files left required to finish this suit, but the frequency of updates has definately decreased.

JMHO!

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - neck seal!

Stark1138: Robo stated a few pages back, that things have been hectic for him far as free time, what was ment to take him 2 days from his post wound up taking nearly a week, I doubt it has anything to do with ethusiasim, and more down to just flat out free time to spend with the 3d modeling program.

after all when he was dropping updates left n right he was also confined to his bed with a illness. I'm putting my money on the fact that the man does have a life after all.

you could've kept that opinion to yourself. Kinda inconsiderate from someone who's relying on someone work.

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - neck seal!

lol its all good guys....Foxw pretty much hit it on the head...

when i started out on this i was stuck in bed with a screwed up back and no other commitments and as such had a lot of free time to spend on doing this

now though i've got several paid projects on the go as well as several other personal ones and even had to turn down a paid job the other day because i was being spread too thin....

so it will get done...just not as quickly as I had once intended....i do come in and check the thread several times a day to follow along with how everyone's going and comment when needed....

so yeh...it'll get done...lol

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - neck seal!

Way off topic,

And I also understand where Robo is coming from, no harm meant.

But I think people were more bothered by my statement of how far off topic this thread wanders at times...

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - neck seal!

hey got a question here... any one know the inner depth/width of the abs and cod peice?

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - neck seal!

I can understand you're frustration Stark1138 especially when you're enthusiastic about finishing the pep IM armor project and when there is a new post in this thread, turns out that it's not about the latest Robo pep file update. But I see that most of the discussions here are somewhat related to the pep files and relevant to the process it takes to finish it and how to go about assembling it later on.

As far as I'm concerned, this is Robo3687's thread and if he doesn't mind the "off topic" discussions then why should anyone else? Let's just forget about this and enjoy what this thread is all about shall we?

Robo, thanks for all your efforts with this project despite your condition and I hope that you feel better soon and take care of yourself first bro.
