Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - foot in first post-details last page

Has anyone been thinking of methods to light up the eyes? What have you come up with?
I had an idea that when the faceplace was up, the eyes weren't lit, but when it closes, the eyes turn on. Something along the lines of when it's closed, it makes a complete circuit for the electricity to light the eyes. Anyone care to elaborate/perfect my idea?

I saw somewhere an idea to light the eyes without blinding your own that went something like this (I can't draw well on the computer, sorry). Anyone know any more about this plan and if it works?

That setup should work depending on how the helmet/eye lines up with yours. Some people attach it from the top with 45% angle and use EL tape to illuminate the eyes.

hmm a fan huh... where is that going?

and while we're decking out our helmets, what about a walkie-talkie/ bluetooth headset built into one of the ear pieces? or would that go overboard?

maybe add in a few weapons to the arms too ^_^

Why not go the whole way and stick a large screen phone in there with a mirror so you can run an augmented reality app such as layar.

i considered a mini TFT LCD lmao

but in all reality im only placing a fan in there to keep heat down

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - foot in first post-details last page

on the surface the back of the mk iv was much sleeker....there were a few little lines I didn't put in because they'd be a bugger to pep and would be easier to put in with a dremel...

my back file has the flaps built into an all-in-one piece as opposed to dancin_fool's multi part design....i did this because i didn't really see the point in having them separate....

Robo, you say a few streams or something that could be done with a dremel in the back, but i have no pictures from the back to do that by hand, if you say that the details are there i guess that you have pictures from the back to see it, so... can you or anybody share some pictures from the back, thank`s.

And so.. the MK IV has not the little grill at the sides as seen in the pictures from Df`s, and the two screw in the top side?

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - foot in first post-details last page

haha. in shark's pep files theres 2 recesses under each eye. just add some projectors there to aim at your eyescreens and use a minilaptop computer built into the chestpiece to run the hud display! XD

then you can add a bluetooth to one ear and a earmic(as seen on tv amplifier) in the other ear

before i saw how small the forearms of Mk IV/VI were, i was planning on using cO2 and yellow LEDs to make small bursts of colored discharge from the palm RTs accompanied by the blast sound effect.

interestingly enough you COULD theoretically build a small PC into the suit IF you use a small form factor motherboard and use a laptop hard drive. i think i mentioned a small TFT monitor in each eye, but it would be a tad costly...

there is a pretty good refrance pic on the ironmanmovie.com website...

Thank`s man, i think i should have watched the movie site first before search on google, if the only difference between the MK IV that`s the one i´m doing and the MK VI is the chest i think i´m doing well.

here's what I'm using as a ref for the back.

a lot better too 'cause you can actually tell most of the beveled areas on the bust. Plus I'm doing 2 back pieces. One of them I will have the flaps movable with servos.

I had the same idea ! I was planning on modding a couple of these Genuine Innovations Microflate Nano Mini CO2 Inflator ONLY £10.99 [ INMFN167 ] - Discount Cycles Direct - Best Prices, Great Service for the palms and maybe the leg thrusters. you wont get many bursts from a cartridge but they are cheap enough to replace and small enough to carry a few around.

hei. I just registered but followed this topic for a while. after u finish all the parts could you put themm al togheter in a 3d model? so we can get a ideea of how it should look.

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - foot in first post-details last page

yea. i was thinkin putting a plexiglass or plastic disk on the palm with very small holes drilled around the edges where micro hoses are attached which then conjoin near your actual palm and run a single hose down the wrist to the cO2 cartridge. by rotating your wrist up, the c02 would trigger a single burst, which would be synced with a speaker housed in the shoulder bells and yellow superbright LEDs flashing in sync with the cO2 burst.

only thing is i think the activation and flash should be staggered as the sound effect involves a powerup before the discharge.

i just gotta find a place to put the cartridge and a chip wafer for the led and sound effect programming.

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - foot in first post-details last page

hey robo i was looking over your palms and thought of a way to make them cover more and still be functional... may not be movie accurate but this is what it thought

instead of having the 'knuckle' piece floating, it is attached
remove the piece that runs in between your thumb and pointer finger
cut a section of the palm off and have it slide over the lower palm
join the lower palm to the back of hand piece

how well this will work i do not know... i was only theorizing lol - maybe someone can try it?

picture below explain what i mean

This is a very exiting project. Would be cool if this also was added to the Ironman Builders Club. Keep it up love to se it done.

when i finally get around to finnishing the hands and chest plate im going to cut up a milk jug to fit into the respective sockets to hide the LEDs and coat the innards of the LED areas with a shiny metallic coat to distribute the light...

also if your doing the arms for the MK IV/VI there should be enough room to place the CO2 in there and run lines where ever you need them - an arduino should be able to fit into the chest

Hey im new here and this is my first time building armor. First off thank you Robo for these amazing files. Second i have 2 questions i havent been able to find the answers for.
1. Do i need to bondo the inside after i fiberglass it?
2. Should i spray the pieces with primer before or after i start using bondo?

1. no you don't have to bondo the inside.
2. Do not spray primer before you do you initial bondo. The resin itself, if you resin the outside, is a better substrate to stick to.

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - foot in first post-details last page

okay so my chest is almoast over. I dont have enough money to buy fibre glass so I tought of using paper mache. If I resin the outside then 6 layers of paper on the inside + a resin how strong would it be?

all you really need is a good coat of resin... adding 6 layers of mache will make your suit heavy and kinda brittle on one side...

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - foot in first post-details last page

why not wait till your next paycheck to finish the chest?
