Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - foot in first post-details last page

heres my full idea for a hud type setup:

microcameras such as these: http://www.pimall.com/nais/fingercam.html at the outer edges of the eyes connect to a pair of these: 80" High-Resolution 3D Virtual Video Glasses with Remote Zetronix cut down and integrated with the faceplate.

these glasses can display the 2d input from the cameras and a 3d hud interface from a computer. a simple mic on the inside of the helmet and an external speaker system with voice changer can duplicate the iron man voice and allow interaction with JARVIS

for the computer, we should use something small, with a solid state hard drive to keep clunking errors down. such as the Rugged Mini UX seen here: Rugged Mini UX: Fanless Mini PC Computer by Tangent, Silent Fanless Operation , Shock Resistant, Mountable

its got 160G of space and gel shock absorbers

now, we can upload and operate the voice software and Alice AI as Azurial suggested.

for the power supply, i suggest some type of high output superslim rechargable laptop battery. as for powering everything else, we could look into slim bats like those used in cell phones. this in turn could be implemented with wireless recharge capability and bluetooth connections to the computer for control so there is no need to run cable through the entirety of the suit.

only prob is that it would block vision and the micro cam would make everything heavy - using a small TFT you could gut the screen out and use the LEDs in the eyes as a back light so you could see, but still retain vision.

i might agreee with the rugged but it seems a bit bigger than my suggestion. also machines produce ALOT of heat, and people produce ALOT of heat. the average operating temp of a processor alone with a cooler on it is about 40c and about 50-60 on a full load and AI programs are always running maxing out the load capacity on your proc... its gunna get REALLY hot in there and the potential to over heat your in-suit system gets higher and higher pretty quickly, thats not to mention that heat from the inside of a PC/Mac/Note/Netbook/ect. starts to gather the secind you power it on.

i was looking around and found that you could easily use a netbook.

as for space requirements you dont really need a whole lot scince all thats going into it is an AI and Voice recognition software.

i will def agree with the laptop bats tho. a few cleverly placed on seperate circuts will allow for a switching crtcut so that when one bat is going dead the instant transfer should interupt the switch. plus with the board i suggested all you would need to do is make a loading dock that has a stander 9v-like adapter and im pretty sure that radio shack has the parts needed for that...

@iuli4n:

if your using 6 LEDs and the each require 4.5v then you will need to adjust your power needs acordingly. if 1 is 4.5 2 will need 9v for continuous operation. but if all 6 amount to
9v then your probably okay. but like i said - in the long run its best to just keep a few on the same circut. that way you keep the need to replace bulbs down to a minimum. i know form experiance how annoying it can be to take EVERYthing aprt to replace one small part

how would the vision be blocked? those visor units simulate an 80 inch hd screen at 2 meters. and the micro cameras are small enough to fit on your index finger. too heavy?

the cooling issue can be solved with an undersuit of cooling gel and heat sinking the computer to the gel as well.

If my Low tech concept for helmet vision dosn't work I was planning something very much among the lines brimestone laid out as I despise "eye slits"

well there would be an inital start up and as for the cam - was unsure that any thing that size was made ^_^

but cooling gel only lasts so long and fans are pretty much more practical esp if you have it vented. and you would need a keyboard/mouse attached to the thing if you wanted to wear it to get everything going - with a TFT you could choose not to power it up but still see is what i ment.

as for a mirco cam idea, you could also use it for eye tracking software to simulate the targeting system.

If anyone's going to try to finagle a bunch of resistors together with an arbitrary voltage and improper/no resistors, make sure you have a camera running when you turn the rig on. I like watching LEDs pop like popcorn.

(please, do some research and use an LED calculator/learn Ohm's law before doing any wiring.)

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - foot in first post-details last page

no, cooling gel lasts up to its max temp. the body heat being absorbed is low level at best and the sinked heat from the computer is distributed to the rest of the gel, resetting its temperature. it keeps a constant temp.

the initial startup happens when the suit comes on, but it stays on after that. the hud isnt gonna turn off and turn on every time you open the faceplate, just when you turn on the comp. if you wanna see out of the lenses while the comp is off, i suggest allowing the viewfinders to swing out of the way and allow manual sight through the eye holes. the backs of the viewfinder units could have the LED's on em and you can just swing em out of the way and have sight ala the cartoon.

About the hands, what are you guys going to use for under-gloves? I thought about some inexpensive motorcycle gloves or something like that. Do you guys know of any gloves with this kind of texture all over?

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - foot in first post-details last page

for mine im going to use some cheap dollar store onesize fits all magic stretch gloves.

LEDs will run at voltage without resistors IF you know what voltage they take

Well i actually know them, but i recommend you a slimmer one`s because if you use some sort of motorcycle gloves you will get your fingers too thick and the finger in pep and palm`s must be too large and you will loose mobility of your hand and she will look`s fat, anyway if you still wanting the gloves whit that texture there are some for construction work, used to be half yellow and half gray, are made to manipulate a rope and not to get burned when slide trough your hand, i`m sure you will recognize it when you see it because unfortunately i don`t remember it`s name.

Also sell some gloves that are a mix between latex and flexible textile, i think`s those are perfect and are the one`s i will use, when i buy it i will post some pictures f you want. luck

hey guys just popping in to let you know the next pieces should be out on the weekend some time.....had a few things come up this week so i haven't had a chance to work on them.....

btw i'm loving all this technical talk going on....good to see this all promoting some creativity....a lot of it goes over my head but its good to see....

Eagerly awaiting this robo!:D

any chance on some pdf versions?:love
