robo3687's Iron Man Pep Files - SD War Machine links page 73

Anyone use the MkVI Brace piece? Because i'm not sure if its a piece of the suit or just used during resining?

I think it is part of the costume... it helps connect the chest to the back and supports both on your shoulders. I have read this entire thread and MightyJohn is one member that comes to mind. He has posted pictures of his progress and he is building the brace as part of the costume.

well, Guess I will try it this way. I just bought all my cardstock for the trial fit and foam for the actual build.

How do you resize the pep files if they are too big/small for you?

I have read so amny different versions of how to do it it's really confusing. I'm about 5ft 9in and 160 lbs, is there any way to use that as a guide for a size that "should" fit?

I have read something about numbers like 25 or 22 in the pep viewer but I dont see that anywhere in mine...

This looks almost like an impossible project for a newbie like myself.

No it is not impossible. Just remember... we were all newbies at this at one point. There are some great video tutorials that our fellow brother STEALTH here on the RPF put up on youtube. Look him up on his channel TheHeroTutorials. He goes over all the basics to pepakura to the advanced stuff and he even has tutorials up on building with foam.

A quick answer to your question about scaling:
You can't change the scale if you are using Pepakura Viewer. You have to download the free version of Pepakura Designer or buy the full version. The free version will not let you save any changes to the files. So, say you scale it down and have to spend 1 hour moving the parts around. Then you find out you got the wrong scale... well now you have to do it all over again. This is more of a problem if you are scaling parts up.

Anyways, to change the scale in Pep Designer you just go to the '2D Menu' > Change Scale > Scale Factor. Then you will see the scale listed in the bottom box. I believe for Robo3687's files you would want to try a scale of about 24 if you are 5'9" and 160lbs. This is only a general guide because every body is different and you may have to print up some parts at 24.5 and others at 23.8. It just depends on your body shape. The good thing is that it gives you the finished dimensions of the part. So you can see how big it is and measure your body part to try and figure out if it will fit.

There is also a tool that allows you to take a measurement between two points in the 3D model. In Pep Designer, just right-click on the 2D page and select the last option on the pop-up menu.

Darkside,

I see now where to fix the scaling but there are no numbers there like 24 or 25. It just gives mm for height and width. like 262 mm height. Either way I can adjust it from here but I just don't see where people are getting a number like 25 from.

Thanx for the info

Right after the height, width, and depth there is the box labeled scale. That is the number you want to change. When you change that number the height, width, and depth of the finish part will change.

There is also be an option under 2D Menu > Change Scale > Increase Scale 10% or Decrease Scale 10%. Although, I often find that a 10% jump in the scale is too much.

Wow I totally missed that when I looked at it. Pardon me for being a ******* lol. When I looked at it quick after downloading the new software when I saw the scaling box it was a huge number with the decimal point so I totally overlooked it. Thanx for clearing that up.

So I started the helmet out of 110lb card stock using the pep file At its base scale of 1. with height of 262mm, width 188, depth 303. I'm about 3/4 done with it and it seems it might be a bit small but I'll wait til I finish it to really judge that.

Couple things I can say is 1 I'm not diggin pep actually made out of paper so there is no way I'd fiberglass this. I did it quickly so it's not coming out too neatly but I can't imagine even if I took my time that it would. I will however use the paper stuff to judge a correct size then remake the entire piece from foam. I'll then use product to make the foam rigid or just use the foam costume to mold a rigid version of it.

This being my first venture into anything like this I chose one hell of a way to start. No testing the waters just dive right in...

Thanx for the tips Darkside, already been a huge help.

BTW any particular pep files modded for foam you recomend?

I was looking at Stealths modded for foam of the mark IV mark VI armor. Completely different from the regular file. I was debating on creating my own to seperate the pieces according to lines in the helmet a bit more but using somethin that you already know works would be much easier.

Sure I would recommend the foam templates that were made from my Mark VII pepakura files! ;) Click on the link in my signature if you are interested.

Wow very kool. I wasn't planning on jumping into a mk VII right away but this looks pretty kool so I just might. altho looking at the thread there are a ton of versions of the files, some called foam edits which I guess would be the ones to go with but it appears not all the parts are in all the file downloads.

Is there one definitive link with all the files gathered?
Also is the mk VII a harder build than previous versions like the IV or VI?

Well, there are my version 1 pepakura files which were a very early design based on a few blurry screencaps and a somewhat inaccurate statue. Then there are the foam templates which are based on my version 1 files. My version 1 files include everything except for the hands, neck, and helmet. You can get these from the links I posted on the first post in my thread... reused from the Mark VI. These files were already made and are very good... no need to remake them.

I am also working on my version 2 files which will replace the version 1 files. Now that the movie has come out and more accurate reference materials are available, I can make a more accurate suit.

I have all the files loaded on my skydrive... only one link on the first post in my thread. All you have to do is place a check by all the files you want to download and then click download. This way you can choose what you want.

Sweet. I think I may wait for the version 2 files tho since you are already working on them. Any idea when you may be posting the version 2?

In the meantime I will work on figuring out sizing for myself. Not sure my card helmet would have enough room for servos etc.

Not sure how man times I'll have to rebuild parts to get the correct size.

The braces are ONLY for holding the shape of the parts during resin. They are removed once the Resin cures and you have a hardened peice.

I dunno for definite but I read in another thread that using the brace in a foam build helps bring the whole suit together ,and ill admit it certainly did. The brace is the inner yellow foam on my suit

looks pretty necessary to me...

Lookin good. What pep files are you using?

Same here brah , I dont think Id be able to have as much done without the brace.

Im using Robo3687's files found at the start of this thread http://www.therpf.com/f24/robo3687-iron-man-mark-4-6-pepakura-128147/

But somehow at the beginning when I was first gathering all the pepfiles I ended up with a different chest piece to the one Robo3687 done?? Ill have a look around my computer and the boards and see if I can find out who done it. Or maybe someone else knows?

And thanks for the compliment

My build at the minute!!
