Rise of the Planet of the Apes SPOILERS

Just saw it. The good? Way better than Burton's POS. The bad? I didn't like it as much as I wanted to.

Will I see it again? Most likely not.

Saw it for the second time the other day, such a great film.

I could see myself seeing it a third time in theaters.

The snack shop at Muir Woods has a grilled cheese sandwich that is so good I could see it bringing down the human race.

Never tried that snack shop! Will have to do next time I am out there....

but believe me, there's nothing Bear Gryllis can find out there to sustain a whole troop without shaking down the tourists for food.

Just saw it yesterday and I absolutely loved it.
What an incredible job they did with Ceasar's character arc.
A special and ape is raised by man, and eventually grows up to lead his kind to freedom against man....Kind of ironic that Charlton Heston played Moses, and the basic storyline in this film is very similar to the Ten Commandments.

The one scene in the film where I said "Ok, this is definitely a planet of the apes film" is when the animal control guy catches the ape in the net and sticks him in the back of the truck....Then we see a spear fly right through the roof of the truck and we see a row of apes holding spears atop of the building. Awesome shot.

I also noticed some clear groundwork for the next film. From what I could tell, Koba seems to be the prime candidate to break off from Ceasars clan and be a villain in the next film. Koba will probably lead his group of apes to wipe out man kind while Ceasar
may try for a mutual agreement with mankind.

Really loved the easter eggs and homages to the original series.

-The opening scene in the jungle looked very similar to the scene where Taylor and his crew encounter the apes for the first time and are hunted down.

- The use of "Bright eyes" as the name of Ceasars mother.
- The Icarus launch along with the "Lost in Space" nespaper headline.
- "Dodge" and "Landon"
- Ceasar playing with the statue of liberty.
- The urangutan's name was Maurice (Possibly an homage to Maurice Evans who played Dr. Zaius)
-Another ape was called "Cornellia"
- The line "Get your Stinking paws off me....."
- The Line "It's a mad house, A MAD HOUSE!"
- Heston's cameo on the TV.

Don't know if this was an homage to King Kong, but I thopught that the gorilla taking down the only flying vehicle (and getting shot) was a bit ironic.

I also think I spotted that one guy watching a scene from the original Mighty Joe Young on TV.

Any others?

Did you stay part way through the credits? The apes won't have to do anything to man. It's a done deal.

Yeah, I dont think the virus will wipe out all of mankind. There will be some survivors. Wouldnt be much of a planet of the apes franchise without the man vs ape factor.

Sorry but its says so in the title, Rise of the planet of the apes. Plus in the credits we see the virus being carried all over the world and killing mankind. There are the humans that were in the ship heading to mars though. Possible sequel?

They called it "The Neverending Story" and yet...it still ended.

Does Caesar remind you of anyone? I couldn't help but think he looked a lot like someone I've seen or met before. I'm not being flip, I'm serious.

I know his movements were based on Andy Serkis in that wired up greenscreen get-up, but I don't think it's Serkis' likeness I'm seeing in Caesar's face. Did they model his face based on Serkis, or anyone?

It was strange, as soon as I saw the adult Caesar in the film, it was as if I'd known him for years.

Thoughts?

Sorry, but several of the previous films took place after the Planet of the Apes had already risen....and humans were still around.
Just because they show the virus spreading doesn't mean all of mankind will be wiped out.
