Just saw on his Twitter account that he passed away last night. Didn't know he was 82. Some really iconic roles. His performance in Misery was my favorite. Even more than Godfather, though he was incredible in that as well.
Bummer! Loved him in everything, and he was as adept in comedies as in dramas. Jimmy ad libbed the "bada bing" line in The Godfather, so he brought that into the lexicon. You did good, Jimmy, rest easy.
That's a shame, now I know how my mom felt at my age. All the "adults" I grew up watching in movies are checking out.
Elf will be a bitter sweet watch this Christmas.
Thief is one of my favs, too. Alas, that and William Friedkin's equally good Sorcerer with Roy Scheider are both top shelf films that seem to be forgotten.
When Sonny got mowed down I cried
When Jonathan won I cheered
When I found out he was on Santa's naughty list I laughed
So many great movies..
I loved him in Freeby and the Bean..
There's a great interview with him on Marc Maron's WTF podcast where he tells some great stories about his life and some that might suprise you.
