Ridley Scott Prometheus: NOT the Alien Prequel Details

Thanks a lot for the kind words guys, really happy to see you seem to like my little theory (even if I agree with you Bryancd, I maybe went too far on the EVA suit / big chap comparison... Time will tell...)

:)

The thing in the clamp above Shaw (are we sure that's Shaw?) does not resemble anything octopus-like. It's a worm shape with a thin tail. It may look like there is more than one tentacle, but those are just reflections in the clear canopy as it opens. It's a single tail whipping around.
Alien Worm-thing gif

There appears to be black blood splattered on the canopy, Shaw's twitching body, the worm's head, and what looks like a dark spot on her chest. Assuming that is blood and it has been darkened for the trailer to meet MPAA standards, I'm guessing this thing came out of her chest. We have already seen her looking sick and falling to the floor in other shots, so it makes sense that this something that grew inside her, as in Alien.

The slimy tentacle going into the arm of the suit does not look the same, and that would contradict the idea that this grew inside and burst out of her, but we are only seeing a few frames of each of these shots, so it is hard to tell. I don't think they are the same. It appears we have multiple characters who have been infected in different ways.

Wow. Nice catch! I guess Ridley Scott has either OCD for the wrong or right reasons. :lol

This is common for trailers, especially in effects heavy films. I'm sure a lot of effects work is getting close to being locked, but most of these effects shots were completed specifically for the trailer, so the final shots may be a lot different once you see the finished film, and some may not even be in the film. The effects work won't be complete and locked until a few weeks before the prints are struck and downloads ready to go to digital theaters. In some cases they work right down to just days before the release.

As an example, I'm working on some prop replicas from a certain effects heavy film. I'm trying to get clarification about exactly where the blue glow comes from on a certain prop, based on a few frames I see in the trailer. The film company can't confirm anything because that effects shot was just made for the trailer. They have yet to do anything more, so no one really know exactly what is glowing an where is is on the prop, and it may change in the final film anyway.

Not her chest. There's an incision just above her belt that's been stapled shut. And yes, that's her blood, I think.. check the International version of the trailer, the shot of her stumbling down the hall afterwards is not "dumbed down" for the MPAA, and she's clearly covered in blood, not dirt.

One thought I had (conjecture) about that sequence:

I think she may have done that procedure on her own. She appears to be alone when she's in the machine, and there's no one there to help her down the hall, eventually making her way to where David and the others are (the shot of her falling to her knees in the first teaser trailer).

I'm thinking that she discovers this thing, has it forcibly removed via something akin to a C-section (doesn't the Weyland site mention something about robotic surgery?), and then goes to find the rest of the crew. Makes me wonder why she didn't enlist their help, unless there's more of that corporate "crew is expendable in order to secure the biotech" thing going on.

In any event, I think there's a lot more to the plot than we've seen.. I wonder how much they've been instructed not to use in the trailers.

I'm sure they were careful to show just enough to tweak interest and start the guessing game, but not actually enough to know the real plot. It appears Damon is behind the website and some of the marketing (from his comments), and based on the way they did this type of thing with LOST, not much has actually been revealed. Just enough to make everyone think this is a direct Alien prequel with proto face huggers and chest bursters...then we see the film and find out it has little to do with any of that :)

Ditto !

Well, here's my guess as to how she gets that nasty creature in her tummy.

Darn fool. He should have known that whenever a worm like creature is crawling inside your eye, the last thing on your mind is doing the nasty with your girlfriend.

Sounds like a good guess. If you're correct it upps the ghastliness level a bit. STD aliens, oh joy. Also, could it be controlling his behaviour by that point?

That's not outside of the realm of possibility given how some of the crew turn on each other in vicious ways. And, wow. If he was being influenced to do this, doesn't that kind of make this... rape? Oh, Dan O'Bannon. I miss your sincerity.

Dan: And I'm not going to attack the women in the audience. I'm going to attack the men! Homosexual oral rape. Birth! The thing lays it's seed down your throat. The whole number.

I'll say this though. If anyone is reading a magazine onboard Prometheus, I quit.

Carson said 'different beastie same DNA". SPace Jockies appear to wear biomechanical suits that are linked to them, possibly connected to them. Could a proto chestburster infecting a jockie become what WE know as the Xeno because it also borrows from the jockey SUIT DNA. It would explain the resemblance between the xeno we know and love and the jockey suits in the new movie. Just thinking out loud.

Bingo. :cool
What I assumed from the getgo. As we all know there will be one popping out at some point.

I was thinking that very thought. She may or may not know it at that point, but either way it's pretty clear by this point that poor Ms. Shaw is in for a terrible, terrible time in this film.

A few shots from the new TV spot posted over at AICN:

So, this one really grabbed me:

How the hell are they stacked like that? Because unless I'm seeing it wrong, these are the same containers that are spaced out in front of the giant head, just stacked in columns. As expected, stunning image.

AND just because I love this visor/helmet thingy:

I have a feeling that Michael Fassbender as David is going to make one of the coolest movie characters in a long, long time.

I hope so, at least. It's been forever since I actually thought a character was, well, awesome.

First thing I thought of when I saw that picture was the Nostromo's Engine Room model.

Darn Space Jockies are behind everything!

I just noticed something else in tv trailer #2. Fassbinder/David is standing in the center of the hologram. We have two tall aliens (presumed to be the jockeys) walking towards him, possibly a third on the right, but it does not appear to be moving. You can see them walking at 0.22 seconds in. Really shows the scale difference. They are behind the pods on the floor, but almost twice the size of David, who is standing in the middle of the room.
