Ridley Scott Prometheus: NOT the Alien Prequel Details

Well, the tunnel full of corpses does give kinda something like that impression. :lol

I dunno...I see lots of "signs" that major respect is being paid to Alien (and canon) in Prometheus. The use of the same siren in the 1979 and 2012 trailers, for instance. Maybe I'm an optimist but I'm getting a real good feeling that Sir Ridley has taken very good care of his creation(s).

I would love to be that optimistic. Hell, I'd settle for any clear sign that it's been thought about! Even if it left things open to the audience to interpret, at least some sign that the filmmakers have got this covered in their backstory would be good.

Relevant:

"Jon Spaihts :‏
@RobGirvan We tried not to violate canon wherever possible; but the canon's not completely coherent and in the end story wins."

You get that impression from the trailers - but I'm talking about the 'walking out of the cinema after the movie' stage.

True. I've only got trailer impressions which so far have led me to...

Oh I'll be there on opening day stumping up for a 3d ticket and a comfy chair, don't worry. :D

Anyone else get the impression that there's been some kind of war or battle on this planet...long before the arrival of the Prometheus?

Something's off...a supposed master race, the 'creators'...yet they live in ruins?

Or nothing is alive in this place until the humans activate it by their contact. Something happened to this jockey, and possibly knocked his head/helmet off (if that is what they are really looking at)

Some other observations on the space jockey "suit". The head, helmet is sculpted with bone segments just like a human skull, and other bone like textures. This is clearly meant to be something organic, not just a space suit.

The one laying on the ground and the "suits" standing in the hallway have the ribcage "bones" on the chest, yet the one we see being formed into the chair in trailer 2 shows the ribs wrapping around it. If you look, the ribs on the jockey can be seen just under the ones wrapping over them. I think another few seconds of this scene would see a lot more changing and blending occurring. We only see a few fractions of a second in the trailer.

Regardless of this being some kind of space suit or not, it does appear to be biological. That would also explain why they are doing a scan of the head on the Prometheus. Notice that head in the chair has domed black eyes, or covers. The head being scanned looked like it has empty eye sockets.

Beyond the "California split level" cockpit, the overall design of the Prometheus reminds me of Cobb's Nostromo drawings.

Now this is strange. Did they rotate the crashed Derelict Ship? Take a look.

At first I thought maybe the film would do a full 360º turn around on the crashed ship, but if you look at some of the ground details, the shot is exactly the same.

I hadn't noticed that. It's not uncommon to render out early versions of a shot for the trailer, knowing that it will be changed. If you look at the ground to the left, the effect of the dust cloud is much more refined in the second shot.

I'm guessing either Ridley preferred it turned this way (which is "right side up" from the camera's perspective) or else someone realized that it was backwards compared to the other shots around it.

I also noted some rather interesting details in the latest PROMETHEUS trialers that could maybe explain the origins of the biomechanical creatures seen in the first ALIEN...

More here (6th post from top of page) after the jump, sorry I don't have the courage to post everything again on the RPF right now

The Proto Facehugger certainly looks the part. It might just be. A lot of stuff we've been seeing in Prometheus so far looks to have been lifted from unused art pieces from the original ALIEN.

The Proto chestburster on the other hand? Nice catch. At first I thought it was a Space Jockey in it's suit unleashing a tentacle through it's arm while still sitting in it's chair. But after looking at the international teaser, the suit is clearly one that's being worn by the prometheus crew.

Well spotted Jeyl ! (and I agree completely with Jedi2016)

Good read, Fred. I think the suit vs. the Big Chap suit and head design is a bit of a stretch, those details seem very minor and coincidental.
