Ridley Scott Prometheus: NOT the Alien Prequel Details

I caught that AVP vibe as well from the set up of the plot as shown in the trailer. And the whole Engineer and DNA seeding idea I am not a big fan of but I have faith the story will delivery despite those misgivings.

Any theories on why they blacked out the goop in the ampule? In the teaser, it was a clear greenish color, now it's black and oily-looking (but still has the green at the top where David is holding it).

I wonder if the change is permanent, or just something they did for the trailer?

I heard it is supposed to be. It is lush because it is before the crash of the derelict ship and the battle that apparently occurs there.

Back early in this very thread there is a discussion about that and it would appear that it's not the same planet. I think that would be too far a connection then Scott was willing to commit to although I would have dug it.

I suspect this takes place on a few different planets - The "Homeworld", if you like... Then a chase to stop the Jockey race getting to Earth, ending with a crash on LV-426 to set up for Alien. Possibly with the homeworld being obliterated?

That would leave the company open to knowing about the Derelict's existence, but having no idea where to find it... Setting up for Alien.

No, for sure all the same elements are there it's just the Prometheus gear is much more flash!

It is a private expedition, very well-funded as it is backed by a megacorp.

the nostromo could be a sideline of Weyland Yutani... a workhorse to pay for the top-end scientific stuff.

It's a space truck. A tug. For all we know it could even be a former interplanetary tug that's older than the Prometheus, retrofitted with a stardrive.

If Ridley was to film the original Nostromo model these days, it would easily look as good as anything you would see on prometheus.

It could be jazzed up to look that good. The model itself right now does not look as good as it did in 1979, though it looks a thousand times better than it did in 1999. :)

Is this planet LV-426 or not?

Supposedly not. I am a bit worried about the ringed planet in the sky, however!

A new UK international trailer has dropped, with different footage...

So here's the inevitable screencap gallery (I tried to only take shots that didn't appear in the US trailer I grabbed here

...sigh.

It's a kind of reductionism, just like the SW prequels, and EU. Everything revolves around a 'small' vision of space and society.

Another thing I've found to be disappointed about. The ship's interior shown in the 3D scan? The three entrances as used by the Nostromo crew are shown to lead directly to a large spheroidal room in the centre of the ship. There's still room above it for a Jockey Chamber under the dome on the top of the ship - as per Giger's original paintings. However it looks a lot like this is meant to BE the Jockey Chamber. There definitely isn't a long bone-shaped Egg Chamber type of room running through all three arms of the ship.

If the room is the Jockey Chamber, the ship is a lot lot lot smaller than it ought be.

The ship design and the jockey chamber/star map room are clearly not the exact same designs as the one seen in Alien, so one would assume the layout is also not meant to be the same.

from the weyland corporate timeline on the weyland industries page.

Discovery of Archeron LV-426

Weyland astronomers discover multiple moons and a ringed planet just outside the Zeta 2 Reticula System, which are possibly able to support life. Weyland expects to travel there within the century.

Interesting. That info is not on the timeline page now. There are lots of references to Weyland being the inventors of lots of the technology seen in Alien and Aliens, and this -

Sir Peter Weyland Memorial Library built in Washington, DC.
June 23, 2065 (I assume this means Weyland died sometime prior to this, and is dead at the time the film takes place. Or is he? This is the next entry. Reminds me of Dark Star.)

Weyland Industries earns patent number 18,364,003 for Method and Apparatus for device able to temporarily restart brain activity of deceased individuals.

Just watched the trailer. My thoughts: a) the first part reminded me of AVP, in a bad way. "All these cultures share the same imagery blah blah blah." Yawn. :)

Not only that but the guy delivering that powerpoint about the cultures had me really fearing about my ability to make it through that scene. Did the tone of the scene remind me of Alien or Aliens? Nope. Did it remind me of Avp or Avatar? Yes.

Looking through the pic gallery of Phase Pistol's, so much of the alien culture stuff is clearly sub-Giger cheese. Including the Alien from the first movie in the wall/ceiling. Looked like the work of some bad jewellery designer with a license to make naff Alien trinkets, as does the floor of the jockey chamber and the re-vamped (and sacrilegiously empty) jockey chair. If it was Giger himself did it, then that's pretty sad.

Folk have expressed some reservations about the anthropomorphised jockeys. Indeed. But imagine them done with anything other than flawless cgi. A word to Rid's cg men if they're still working on the film. Watch the weight, eradicate all cartoon jello motion...

Another thing. If that melting monster-mash guy in the jockey chair room gets into that chair after it rises from the floor - if we see anything other than a proper jock sitting in that chair - I refuse to see the film!! lol....
