Rick Grimes screen accurate costume

The shirt is a charcoal Lucky brand Laguna linen shirt. We posted it on instagram a while back. The costume department either painted the snaps with acrylic paint or swapped them out. View attachment 850677
Regarding your goodfellow, you could get it tailored for you,
Do you know what shirt Rick is wearing in his final episode? I can’t seem to find it anywhere.

Awesome! Would you by chance have a link to one in a medium size? I have done a ton of searching and can’t seem to come up with anything. Maybe the shirt is just too old by now?
They were sold at Target last year, but they have since gone out of production. Your best bet to get your hands on one would be stalking Ebay for a while. It'll be worth the search, it's a pretty nice shirt! :)

Lucky Brand Prison Shirt Update.

I finally got down to properly bleaching and dying. The 3 or 4 times I put it through the washing machine were not really working so I did a 1 gallon hot to 1 cup bleach soak in the sink, checking every 10 minutes and after an hour it was clearly lightened. After a wash and dry I soaked it in another 1 gallon to 1/3 package of Rit dark brown for less than 5 minutes. Another wash and dry and it came out pretty much the same color as the screen shirt and the pattern is faded just enough so they are only visible on close inspection. I did get some red splotches and not sure if they were just a reaction of the red dye or if there was undissolved brown dye in my mix but I think I can weather them out. Here is the progress with the project shirt next to a new one.

So you don't need to flip back to the earlier posts here is the recap for the identification. I was playing with the the contrast and saturation of the screen images and found that it wasn't a plain beige shirt but actually had a pattern that was nearly faded away. Luckily (pun intended) I found the exact Lucky Brand shirt the same day and eventually ended up with 2 to play with.

After 3 bleach runs through the washing machine it wasn't fading nearly enough

I decided to do a 1 hour soak in 1 gallon hot water with 1 cup of bleach and that got me to the fade I was looking for.

And finally after a few minutes of soaking in the Rit dye...

IMG_6564.JPG IMG_6566.JPG IMG_6567.JPG

Aside from color differences due to lighting and the saturation used on the show I think it came out pretty much the color of the screen used shirt. After stripping the labels, some weathering and fixing the red spots I think it will be ready to go.

I never really was a fan of painting snaps because I thought they would scratch off and need constant touch up... so I kept looking for another shirt and I came across a Lucky Brand shirt with the same pocket design with black snaps but in a camo pattern. So I went back to the screen shirt and did the same contrast/saturation process I did with the Lucky "snowflake" shirt from Season 4.

I grabbed a hi-res of the 9.02 shirt then cropped it down to the pocket. I thought I could already see a pattern so I went ahead and played with saturation and contrast etc and the pattern (at least to me) seemed to pop a little more. So I took the photo of the Lucky shirt and cropped out to the pocket and adjusted the contrast and color to match the test photo.

Maybe I'm just seeing things but the only place in the photo that is really getting the sun through the leaves to account for harsh changes in lighting is on his right arm. The rest of the shirt is in pretty neutral light so the harsh changes that show up in my adjusted photo don't seem to be from a light source casting shadows. Where there are sudden changes to dark there is no crease visible that would put it in shadow. The dark areas transition to light in a defined smooth curved line. I think that his shirt is probably the camo shirt but it has been dulled down/washed out so much that the pattern becomes really subdued but I think it is still there... and as a plus no swapping or painting snaps required.

I managed to come across one for sale so of course I grabbed it. When it arrives I will wash or dye it out and see how it looks and post some pics to see if this is it or if I am just losing my eyesight:lol:.

So, has anyone else tried to ID “Rick’s boots” from the latest episode? I’ve been looking all over eBay, Poshmark, and etsy to no avail. I know it’s not technically part of his screen used costume, but heck, having another option available for cosplayers is nice.

I found this behind the scenes photo and it looks like they are the same boot (or at least the same model) And if so, would that make them accurate with screen used? The wet ones clearly are not the 2222s.

I put them side by side and used the points of the embroidery as markers and I would say that they are a match.
Also, inside the one he is holding the label stamping doesn't look like most Justin's

Here is a really close side by side... and better yet, split down the middle and mirrored up to one another...

They are obviously beat up and faded but the pattern is correct.

The color isn't quite right but after I did the comparison found that there were other color variations:

TONY LAMA 7938 or 7937.
Some keywords associated are Lovett Cognac Tan - Americana - bull shoulder
The 7938 looks like the tan cognac version but with the way photos can look so different I haven't been able to verify if there was a color option under that model number or if 7937 is the brown and 7938 is tan.

Looks like we’ve got a winner! Also kudos to you for pointing out the stunt boots in the other shot! Those we’re previously identified (incorrectly, apparently) as Justin 1560s or Justin 1564s.

Edit: Just found a pair in my size on eBay for about $60! Gonna place an order. I bet if you look you can find some in your size, too. Also check Etsy and Poshmark.

Good work! That pair was one of the first ones I found that looked more brown than reddish tan.
I actually snagged a pair before I posted the pictures, just to be sure I didn't miss out

There are at least 8 more on ebay but you have to get pretty creative with your search terms or just be patient and scroll through hundreds.
Some people like to put pretty general terms in their titles, like

TONY LAMA MENS 8 EE WHISKY BROWN LEATHER WESTERN ROPERS COWBOY BOOTS
Men's Tony Lama Brown Leather Western Cowboy Boots Size: 10 EE
TONY LAMA Vintage WESTERN Leather Cowboy Rockabilly BOOTS MEN'S 11D
Tony Lama Handcrafted Brown Leather Bullhide Western Cowboy Boot Men Size 10 D

I guess they were nice enough to put Tony Lama but I know some don't even put that much.
There are probably some lurking out there with no way to identify besides the photo.
I got a pair of 2222's for less than $50 that way. I got another pair under $50 because they put 2223 by mistake but had what they were anyway.

Smart move! I have a feeling these will get harder to find soon. Here’s a few shots of the ones I got. I believe the color is accurate, it’ll be easier to tell in person. Either way the stitching and build is correct, the color can always be tinkered with.

When you mentioned the Justin 1560 1564 I thought I would check it out just to be sure. I have to say that maybe at first glance the upside down, low res photo might resemble the Justin but when you put them together I must say that it clearly is not. Even with all the distorted details you can clearly see the line of embroidery that curves across the top up to the pull tab is a smooth line with a notch out of it, exactly as the Tony Lama and nothing at all like the jagged shape on the Justin. Also, you can make out a stitch running down the middle of the pull tab which the Lama has and Justin doesn't.

Any leads on where to get a pair of close enough sheriff pants since the SA ones are no longer in production?
Try ALCHEMY ARMS, they have the shirts and pants. Not sure if they are exactly SA but they have good stuff. I've purchased BSG bdu's from them and they were well done.

Yeah, looking at it now it’s pretty obvious. I should mention, I wasn’t the one who made the ID, I saw a post on Instagram from a user rickgrimes_sa_ids. They’ve gotten a lot of their info from here, so it’s pretty accurate. Foolishly, I took their word on that ID as well instead of double checking to be certain. I’ve sent a message informing them of your discovery.
