Rey - Star Wars: The Force Awakens Build (open for everyone!)

ladylexy - THANK YOU SO MUCH for that writeup. Seriously, I cannot thank you enough. I've seen a few Rey's so far at Cons and the colour is always off (but I'm terrible at dyeing so I couldn't figure out what was missing). Now, I just need to get patterns, then figure out how much fabric I need, and get said fabric. (Did you find the viscose fabric from Dharma trading worked alright?)

Hey all!

I just wanted to drop in and give a few updates on my contributions towards this thread. I'm getting the final okay today for my week off work, which is looking more and more like its going to fall at the end of September rather than in October. There's more than enough people on the list to cover the costs, so I'm kind of going to throw out the list out and just put a link to my etsy store on here once I'm able to finalize the price. If I've promised you a staff, you'll definitely get one, but taking preorders on etsy seems like the best way to make sure that everyone who wants one gets one instead of me trying to keep track of a list, and its also going to let me charge a flat rate for shipping. Its also going to make keeping track of everyone's payments and shipping info easier. When I actually post the link I'll include a deadline that orders need to be in by in order to ensure the kits ship in time for the movie.

If you're going to opt out of buying my staff and go for the 20 dollars one linked above, no hard feelings at all. My kits will be in the range of 100-150 dollars without shipping, so I totally understand about going for the cheaper option that requires less assembly.

If for some reason you really want a staff and etsy doesn't work for you (I foresee some issue around international shipping, and I've had atleast one person ask about this so far) just send me a PM at the time and we can work something else out.

EDIT: It's approved! Construction on the staff kits begins in earnest on September 21.

Found a link to that wall sticker site "Big Head" that has a Rey picture.
You can zoom in on the details.

Useful staff reference.
Also good shot of the collar opening, showing a different material edging it.

Ryanoh - Count me back in for the staff! I'd rather have a good one (it just might take me a hot minute to save up for it. I only posted the toy staff for a cheaper option for those of us broke folks).

Division6 - With your awesome skills, could you grab a hi-res copy of those decal pictures? I'm not sure how to do that myself...

Yeah I can get them.
I'm also piecing together the image.

I'm heading out for the evening so I will get them tomorrow for you.

If you want to give it a try use the print screen button on your key board then open a paint program and paste.
Or if using Windows there is a Snipping tool that allows you to crop then save.
I had to dig for it on my Vista computer but it's part of the menu on Windows 7.

So, question. I've read through this thread once fully and trying to run through it again, but it's a lot of information. What did everyone decide to do with the pants?

simplyshiny I don't think there is any one set thing people are doing. Some are using the pants from Forever 21 anD altering them. Others are making them from scratch, and others may be using other pants similar to start from. I think it all depends on level of ability and cost for people. I want to try my hand at fabricating mine.

One of my buddies asked to use my Kylo for the Force Friday event so I decided to throw together a staff for myself. It's far from accurate but I spent 6$ on it. I went to home depot and I used the outdoor sprinkler aisle as my spring board to build it. Cheap as hell! http://imgur.com/WL1G02a

SL13377, would you have a tutorial on how you did it?

I saw these and was like.. Ohhh they glow what a fun effect! XD but I started with a goggle base that went all way across rather than glasses style. Also it's all band rather than sides with plastic ear parts

Sorry about the delay on these, my PC decided that it wasn't going to used photo shop while I was working on them.
Had to transfer the files to my laptop.
Also had to do some repainting due to color artifacting.

Hi, all! I've just registered particularly for this incredible thread, as I am in the early stages of gathering my own Rey outfit. One thing that is particularly baffling me is the belt. What are you all doing for this piece of the costume?

Perusing the thread I haven't found any information, and perhaps it's because it's such a simple thing that most of you don't even need to discuss making it. However, I am a complete noob, so any help is appreciated!

Slightly off-topic-- any of your fine folks do commissions? I am seriously considering convincing my GF to be Rey to my Finn, and we don't have a seamstresses' bone in either of our entire bodies. PM me if anyone is interested. =)

JJ Griffin the nice thing about Rey is you can see the hand stitching on her tunic isn't perfect, so a little trial and error would be ok for her costume.

jedichristy welcome. I believe most are fabricating the belt from leather blank. Tandy leather has belt blanks for a good price usually. Or you could find one that is the right color and repurpose it. Though a store bought belt will have holes that would need filled.

Sometime this week I'll be patterning out the belt.
It's made of one piece of leather not two separate belts.

Finished the pants yesterday accept the front belt thing.
I chopped it down and will add velcro so it lays flat under the top.

I ended up getting a second pair of pants for making the leg wrappings.
Took me the better part of 8 hours to cut them out and hand stitch the edges.
Since the material stretches I ended up using squeeze clamps to weight the ends and had it laying over a binder on my lap so I had a smooth flat surface to work on.
Using silk and making it from scratch would have been easier and less time consuming.:p

Also started working on the greeblies that go on the pack.
Hope to start on the pack this week, still need to get the metal fittings for it.
