Rey Alternate Outfit? (possible spoilers)

It's hard for me to tell the colors well in the first pics, but that last one looks great! It looks like the grey came out pretty well.

Speaking of grey, Dharma has a new neutral grey dye. Looks pretty sweet, so I'm thinking of trying it. I will let you all know how it works if I do.

Right? I got that email right after I finished this. Nice timing, there, Dharma. But maybe I'll do more in the future with it.

And thank you!

Here's an old and new comparison shot. You can't really tell the difference until you look at them both together.

Approved! (And rucksack is nearly finished, but waiting on one buckle from the UK. You know how that is.)

Yay!
Congratulations!

Oh, yes, now the difference is more noticeable, especially with the pants! Makes me wish I had more time.....

Thanks. Just my luck the buckle will come today, the same day as my Endor helmets should get here...so much to do for a con the day after tomorrow! Eep!

But it'll get done. It always does.

How are you all doing your arm wraps? They look like cotton gauze like her Scavenger Rey costume, but the fabric looks slightly different. Are you guys buying white stretch cotton gauze and dying them, or are there grey wraps somewhere out there I can get?

My wife got her Rebel Legion approval this morning! Since I last posted we re-made the belt and holster and upgraded the pants. The enfield straps just arrived last night so we didn't submit with the staff but she will have it at Celebration next week.

Hey everyone! I've been ghosting this thread for awhile and I wondering if any of you used the Dorr Mill grey herringbone wool for the vest? I'm considering it for my third (and hopefully final) version of the vest but I don't want to pay $66 only to find out it's the wrong choice! Any other fabric suggestions would be welcome. Thank you!

welcome. Yes, I believe the "steel wool" we used from prairie woolens was determined to be one of the dorr mill fabrics and if you do a search on this thread there was an earlier discussion about the colors of several different dorr mill wools that were in the ballpark.

Yes!
I used Dorr Mill and just gave it a quick bath in Rit Pearl Grey

Congrats on your approval!

How did you end up darkening the vest? I know blotting it with paints was mentioned, or did you just chuck it in a dye bath?

-----Edit----

Oops, that was meant for jackwabbit! I'm new around here and still finding my way around the place.

So, mine was dyed in RIT Pearl Grey, as well, like Owlfeathers, who helped out with the mixture. I ended up sending my vest and gauntlets back to my Etsy seller who dyed it for me. I got it back and it was still a bit light, so I did something a bit nuts, but it worked well.

I lightly painted mine with Design Master Flannel Grey spray paint. Did it from far away, etc, like you do when cheating at weathering something.

It worked well. I would not do it with any other kind of paint, but after doing Endor Trooper and Endor Luke, I trust Design Master on cloth. So I carefully tried a small area and liked it. In a perfect world, I'd just dye it, like Owlfeathers did, but I didn't have time to do so at the time and I was scared of doing more dye baths since my edges were fraying a bit more than I liked.

Thanks so much for the info! I still have a lot of RIT Pearl Grey leftover from my Jakku Rey so I can put that to good use.
I've never seen Design Master sprays stocked here in Australia but hopefully I won't need anything else if my initial dye bath is strong enough.

It's just a shame that Dorr Mill hasn't or can't restock that other shade of herringbone.

Also thank you to everyone who has contributed in this thread. It's been such a help to me, and hopefully I'll have a Resistance Rey ready for a convention in late June.
I really like the idea of gifting a little something to fellow Reys so I might follow suit. I did make myself a simple laser cut Rebel Alliance/Resistance badge so I could always do some more to hand out.
